Score? New to elk hunting looks big to me.

That is true roadrunner but I was just curious as a 15year midwestern QDM guy who is trying to get used to looking at Elk. You guys made some good points about him being young I didn't think of that. It might be the QDM in me but since I have plenty of time to scout still I am going to keep...

Score? New to elk hunting looks big to me.

What do you guys think in a range of score? I say shoot but I have never got a antlered elk. I have seen this guy the last two weekends and got a couple nice trail camera pics so I thought I would post.

    Muzzleloder 551ELK or 74/741Elk

My brother and I are trying to plan a hunt for our kids in Colorado next year. I live in AZ and he lives in WI. Based on their 3pts 551 or 74/741 are the options we are looking at. + for 551 we hunted there for Mule Deer and saw a couple 6x6 and heard some bugling so we have some familiarity but...

    Son's First Buck

Seems like most people in AZ don't count the eye guards either but a guy from Colorado when we were packing it out said yes you do. So I don't know if it was a reginal thing or just him? I was, but it might be an interesting debate??

    Son's First Buck

I have never shot anything close to even think about scoring so I didn't know much about it. I am more of a meat hunter, feed my family of 6, kinda guy. After doing some research I see kinda what it takes to score. Like you said it makes no difference to us. We just knew he was big (especially...

    Son's First Buck

Thanks for the kind words. Cant wait to hear your story as well. Yes all good tips for next time and yes we were very exited and I am surprised we remembered to take any pics in the field! My wife who is not super keen on having mounts in the house even agreed that a velvet buck will look cool.

Thanks guys for your response I am new to the forum and have always admired mule deer and really like the site. The deer definitely looked big to us and your right his smile makes it all worth it. Here is a grainy pic of him through the scope and zoomed in with my phone.

    Son's First Buck

Posted in Youth forum but thought it fit here as well. Went to Colorado on a self guided trip with my son. We had a great trip and he was able to harvest this 26" 5x5 mule deer with a muzzleloader on the 4th day. We spotted him through the glass and he did a great job getting to 60 yds and...
