I'm surprised you got a call back from him. I tried for two years leaving messages on home and cell phones with not a reply. I guess lucked out not hunting with him.

Definitely know who you are talking about. Getting him to respond is impossible.

I hunted unit 55 3rd season and was shocked how many small/young bucks I saw in trucks or in camps.

With that kind of quality it sounds like a good deal. I assumed these were gentleman's hunts but more for 150-170 quality bucks. I stand corrected sir (y).

$8k won't get it done in Mexico. The good outfitters start at $10K. Alberta the same. I think $8000 for a 4 day Wyoming deer hunt is crazy but people are paying it.

I will be flying in so it will be more up to the airlines, customs, etc. Hopefully by January most of this virus garbage is in the rear view mirror for the entire world.

That was what I was thinking. I have an outfitter in Alberta that has a spot for me but he thinks the odds of the border being open in November (due to an increase during cold and flu season) is not great.

I think you are correct. With the buy in being higher I think people applied for more species to try to average out the cost of the license. At least I did :) Good business move for NM but not good for those wanting to draw.
