Covid crowds or hunters? The cooler weather is helping keep the Covid people out of the high country. It was bonkers this year.

Yes you should be able to find animals sneaking around the edges feeding. Last year we saw two bucks feeding at the edge of a burn six weeks old. I thought they were licking burned ground for minerals but on closer inspection they found sprouts of new growth one or two inches tall.

From the Interstate you can see the edge of the burn still has lots of cover. It's a pretty wide swath of slightly burned country. The center of the burn looks like the surface of the moon though.

It's looks like it's going to be a big one. Dry as hell and blowing. The upside is last season when we hunted the early rifle season deer were feeding in a burn from two months prior.

They know how to disappear on public. Private land is rarely a factor in Arizona. Especially in unit 7W. Bring the glass and listen for the 320" bulls to still bugle in early November. Generally speaking after the late archery season starts they all go silent.
