Finally had a day off when the weather wasn't nasty and headed down to go out with one of my friends. I was only going to have 1 1/2 days so my hopes weren't to high but I was hoping I could at least catch a glimpse of some sheep. I got out to the 1 st spot about noon on thursday right as the wind picked up and never saw a sheep or even a deer for that matter. The next morning found us at another spot where he had seen sheep every time, even though they had never killed one there. After a couple climbs and some glassing we finally spotted a lone ram down on 1 of the finger ridges. The bad news was he had spotted us and the wind was blowing directly to him. At this point my hopes of actually getting close enough to shoot were pretty small, but since it was the only sheep we could spot we decided to give it a try. After a long, slow stock over the loose rocks we reached the spot were we had last seen him go down into a little depression, nothing. We scanned the surrounding canyons and still nothing. My hope was that he had crossed over the other side and we would run into him as we worked our way back into the wind. After about 50 more yards we heard something jump up and much to our suprise it was the ram 30 yards infront of us. However due to the thick cactus there was no shot. After a 40 yrd sprint I quickly found the ram running broadside at 100 yards. My 1st shot missed just inches high right over the shoulder the second found its mark putting him down for good after going 20 yards. Knowing how tough these critters are I kept waiting for him to jump up as I walked over to him but a nudge from the rifle confirmed that he was down for the count. Man I think I have new addiction!!

Beautiful Ram. Big bodied. They sure are fun when you finally find them.
