2019 Colorado deer hunts

Got this nice Colorado muley last monday! 60 yard shot, 40 yard recovery. Shooting a Traditions St.Louis Hawken kit gun I built a few years ago. 80gr 2fg Gearhart - Owen black powder, .020" patch and .490 round ball. The blood trail was excellent! So good, my girl friend ( her first time going on a hunt ) picked up the blood trail and tracked it for me.

Congrats on a nice fat buck ! I have a similar Hawken 50 caliber shooting patch and ball. It does great out 125 yards. I have the same sling as yours. Like you period clothing as well. Are you also a Jeremiah Johnson fan ?

Yes the reason you miss those days. Is thats when the muzzleloader hunt was in November.
Those were some good old days. I bet most of the flatly wearing youngsters never new there was a muzzleloader hunt in November!
