If hunting 3/301 for mule deer I s it best to have a truck or UTV for travel ?

I was just there for muzzleloader antelope and I would bring a UTV if you have one. The roads are not all gravel and with any weather you will be restricted where you can travel.

+ on bringing a UTV or ATV the roads will turn to Sh*t with moisture

Agree with the above. The roads can get real bad up there with snow or rain. You will need 4 really good and heavy duty chains with a truck. Even with that I've seen a lot of hunters get stuck. Good luck with your tag. It's a fun area to hunt.

I was up there last weekend. Dry right now, but this week's snow is gonna make it messy.

I was up there last weekend as well. My one question is we saw a lot of Antelope but, not a lot of elk sign. Also, where the heck do you hunt elk up there? seems like a lot of the area is privately owned.

Probably, the best public area for resident elk in unit 3 is the BLM lands north of Maybell. Migratory animals can be a lot of places. There are large areas of public land in 3, mostly sage brush country, look at a map.

Thank you, I appreciate the tip. I was a bit surprised how much of the units' were private. Probably poor planning on my part. It's my first elk hunt in CO this year. Been dragging my feet.

The later seasons are usually better for elk.
