3RD SEASON POSSIBILITIES FOR SNOW & COLD?

Since the 2nd season got some snow opening weekend but it is most likely gone by now I thought we might as well start a 3rd season thread;

”EPS and GEFS ensemble forecasts continue to favor the arrival of
a potent trough by Nov 7-8. Precipitation and much cooler weather
could potentially reach the CWA by next weekend, however, there
lies quite a bit of uncertainty with the timing and evolution of
this system as we look beyond the long-term forecast period. This
feature is certainly worth mentioning, though, for its potential
to bring moisture across the thirsty, drought-struck western
slope.”

Whatever all that technical meteorologist lingo means I hope it means we get some more of the white stuff. Heading to 44 Tuesday. Good luck everyone!

I’m leaving Wednesday definitely looking like cooler temps I guess we’ll have to see if we get any moisture.

We have a 3rd season deer tag this year and this is the latest we have ever hunted deer in Colorado. We are stoked. Cold is good.

Liking the look of things. Will be hunting CO for the first time this year, 3rd season deer.

Only tag I drew this year and excited it's almost here!

Regardless of snow, they will be rutting hard during 3rd this year. That storm and cold during 2nd got them kickstarted.

The bucks will be slaughtered this year.

I’m leaving Thursday, have Friday to look around and look over some of my errands scouting notes and then it’s game time hopefully the bucks are rutting. Good luck to everyone!!

The CPW has already hammered most of the big bucks. There are still a few to be had. This season and the next 2 years will all but wipe out the mature bucks in Colorado for nearly a decade. Sad to say but there is nothing to get excited about.

At least we will have some deer in units with lots of private and on the plains...

I'm not seeing much precip in forecast, colder temps are better than heat though. It may just make everything crunchy and hard to walk quietly. Hope some snow comes

Latest forecast discussion;

“No signficant change to the going forecast for the remainder of
the forecast period. Expecting above normal heights through
Thursday with an upper level ridge over the region, then a
transition to stronger southwesterly flow aloft Friday as a cold
upper level trough digs over the western U.S. and slowly moves
eastward over our area Sat and sets up camp through Monday. Dry
conditions and mild temperatures can be expected through Friday.
Breezy conditions will return Friday and continue Saturday. The EC
ensemble mean is a little slower than the GFS eensemble mean with
the eastward movement of the large scale trough, but confidence is
still high that with temperatures crashing aloft and a surface
cold front moving through late Saturday, there will be widespread
showers ahead of and attendant to the front. There is medium
confidence in a second embedded trough diving down the backside of
the larger trough Sunday and closing off near Srn NV Sunday night
and moving northeast over our region Monday and Monday night. Will
be watching this second round carefully. An associated second
wave of precipitation Monday through Tuesday is likely, and would
be mainly snow for all elevations considering we would be under
the core of the cold air by this time. Overall, the period of
Saturday through Monday will be wet and increasingly cold. In
fact, current forecast max temperatures early next week may be
even colder given the pattern we are looking at. While
precipitation for the lower valleys appears to be on the lighter
side, the mountains could be lookin at several inches to a couple
of feet of snow Saturday through Monday...with the San Juan
Mountains currently favored for the heaviest precipitation.”

Sounds somewhat promising - fingers crossed...

@BradA opening day temps hit single digits in the early morning (and snow was on the ground) but it got steadily got warmer every day. By the end it was much warmer with lows in the mid-30's. (at least in central CO).

Several feet of snow, great Ill be packed in 4 miles solo off trail in the san juans this weekend lol. I wanted snow but not feet...
Pack your long johns, we might get whacked down here. Wind and clouds are already here.

About the only place you can get 4 miles in is to go high. Feet is what you should prepare for. Take a horse, you'll need something to eat.

Don't forget there's a fire ban.:censored:

Heed the tree warning. The trees are so dry and brittle that I had a 100' fir at my cabin snap in half in the last storm. Fortunately it didn't hurt anything.
