6b roads

I will be in 6b to scout in a couple weeks. This will be done in a rental vehicle.

Can someone tell me how the roads are in the area?

I want to hit Sycamore Point on the West Side of the canyon in 8. I also want to explore the roads on the 6b side of Sycamore Canyon. Is Casner passable in a full size vehicle? How about Black mt?

Do I need to rent a 4x4? Will a standard SUV get me around? I see off road rentals available, but they are spendy. Any advice or recommendations appreciated.

Hunters, anglers and shooters actively
support wildlife conservation through
tangible actions such as buying licenses
and paying taxes on hunting, fishing and
shooting equipment. Why are hunters and
anglers so willing to support
conservation through their pocketbooks?
Because people place added value on ?
and are willing to pay for ? what they
can use.

The road going out to Sycamore Point on the 8 side was getting so bad last year that they graded the heck out of it and brought in hundreds of tons of road base to fill the bad spots. Much better now. No matter if you come in on Garland prairie road or from White Horse the roads there (12, 109, 110) are fine in a passenger car. The 125 road still had some rough spots going back out thru Pine Flat but not too bad.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-18 AT 04:11PM (MST)[p]If it's dry you can probably get around in two wheel drive. Clearance is one huge consideration though. The rocky roads will puncture the sidewalls of your tires, too.

If you have a rental vehicle it's just going to mean a little extra walking. With the right vehicle you can drive to the good spots. For instance, in Montana you ride horses to the good spot then dismount and hunt. In AZ, you drive a jeep to the good spot dismount and hunt. So when you hit a tight road that looks too nasty to drive, park, walk the road to a game trail and follow.

Couple of weeks from now it could be crap or just dusty as all get out.
Good luck hope the rain is light for your trip.

What hunt are you scouting for?? We usually draw the Unit 8 Late bull, but will be down in two weeks for archery bull this year. Looking straight across from the Point we see some great bulls every Nov.

Late rifle.

I have heard that very thing. I hope they are there this year.

if they keep getting rain you will need 4x4, really depends on where you want to go in the unit. if you are scouting for a late hunt i would wait at least another 5-6 weeks, with the rut kicking off the bulls will not be where they are now in november.

Schedule is not negotiable at this point. I am flying in for work.

I am mainly looking to learn my way around. Find a campnspot, and some glassing spots.
