Two men convicted for poaching 4-point buck
CARSON CITY, Nev. - An illegal deer hunt in Nevada has proven costly for two California men who were sentenced to jail, fined and ordered to forfeit the equipment used when they killed a four-point buck in 2005.
Jon Warren, 40, of Redding and Alan Jeffers, 57, of Anderson were sentenced Wednesday in Nye County after being convicted of illegally possessing a mule deer, a gross misdemeanor, a Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman said.
The two men were ordered to forfeit their truck, flatbed trailer, all-terrain vehicles, firearms and other equipment, the spokesman said. Warren was sentenced to 45 days in jail; Jeffers was given 60 days. Both were fined $500 and put on probation for three years.
Game wardens say the two had applied for hunting permits in one area, then intentionally hunted in a different area.
Game wardens discovered the crime while on patrol.
