AZGFD to host webcast
on tag modernization process July 20

Constituents can submit questions, comments online from 6-7 p.m.

PHOENIX — In an ongoing effort to better serve its constituents, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) will host a webcast to provide an update on the tag modernization process and to gather public input.

Those who access the webinar from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, will be able to submit questions, comments or concerns about the tag modernization process. Flagstaff regional supervisor Larry Phoenix, and Luke Thompson, the department’s habitat, evaluation and lands branch chief, will open the online discussion with a short presentation and address input and questions as they relate to AZGFD’s tag modernization process.

The webcast can be viewed by clicking here. Participants can submit questions through the webcast chat. Those who cannot attend the webcast can email questions to [email protected].

AZGFD is committed to improving the customer experience related to tagging a harvested animal, obtaining hunt permit-tags, licenses, and reporting after a hunt. Modernizing AZGFD’s tag system provides value to customers, supports the ability of officers to enforce laws, and ultimately improves the quality of hunt data from which our biologists make recommendations and the AZGFD commission makes decisions.

AZGFD is accepting comments related to the tag modernization rule making process through July 31, 2021. Comments can be submitted by emailing them to [email protected].

AZGFD continues to seek feedback on how to best meet the demands of the hunting public, while finding ways to develop new opportunities that help pass along the hunting heritage to future generations.

I’m curious where this is heading. I can see an app that records location data, and provides accurate harvest statistics. I bet it also tracks the successful hunter.

Let your imagination wander a little on this one.

You’d lose the bet but lots of people have nothing better to occupy their thoughts. I read it all from the nut jobs when we went to electronic tagging.

July 31: Deadline to comment on proposed paperless hunt permit-tag, licensing system
PHOENIX — Time is running out to provide comment on a notice of proposed rulemaking within Articles 1 and 3 for the purposes of modernizing the big game hunt permit-tag, and hunt and fish licensing system.

The new system will provide customers with added flexibility following the purchase of a license or hunt permit-tag. An app on their own electronic device will enable customers to view their licenses and hunt permit-tags, allow them to electronically “tag” their harvested animal, and complete their harvest questionnaire. Hunters would still have the ability to receive a paper hunt permit-tag, if preferred.

The public comment period runs through Saturday, July 31. Comments are being accepted by:
  • Email: [email protected] or [email protected].
  • U.S. Mail: Arizona Game and Fish Department, Attn.: Celeste Cook, Rules and Policy Manager, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086.
  • Telephone: Celeste Cook, Rules and Policy Manager, 623-236-7390.
The Arizona Game and Fish Commission will consider the final rulemaking at its public meeting Sept. 24. To track the progress of this rule, view the regulatory agenda and all previous five-year review reports, and to learn about any other agency rulemaking matters, visit www.azgfd.com/agency/rulemaking/.
