You have to go south of Anchorage to fish. Whittier, Seward, Ninilchick or Homer. Water is what ever it is for that day. It can be nasty or glass.
Not much fishing around Anchorage unless you want to fish shoulder to shoulder with homeless people downtown. Anywhere you can drive to will be a mob scene unless you know the few secret spots, which are also getting over run with people. Fish 10pm to 5am and you'll avoid 90% of the people. Depending on timing (June its light pretty much all night, fishing will slow when it gets dark for a bit, but pick up again. July is dark for a couple hours at night... again, be on the water as soon as you can see.
