Archery Elk in the rut every 5 years?

So a guy was trying to explain to me how the calendar works in the favor of the elk archer every five years in Utah. I couldn't grasp his explanation. Anyone else familiar with this?

Not exactly true, but every 5 years the dates of the hunt "reset" to the latest date they can be, next year 2021 is that year. The Archery hunts will end on Sept 17th, this 2020 it ended on the 11th. so we will be getting an extra 6 days that should be better rut action then this year.

In 2022 the hunt will end on the 16th,
2023 the 15th
2024 the 13th (notice it dropped 2 days due to it being a leap year, so an extra day in the year causes the date to move back 2 days.)
2025 the 12th

On the General units there is a proposal to add 9 days to the end of the hunt, this is the time that the LE units are doing there rifle seasons, and is the same time as the youth hunts.

The proposal passed 3 of the 5 RAC's but will need to be approved by the Wildlife Board to be implemented. They will do that in December some time.

Pre-rut is a great time to get a big boy with the bow. If you hit it right when they just start gathering the cows can be a blast for rut action. Worked great for me twice.

It won’t matter. Rifle hunters on LE units aren’t seeing much of a rut either. Those muzzy boys are the ones catching all the hard core rut action.
