Beating the Train

My first IronHorse is over. And I surprised myself by beating the train. It took me 3 hours and 51 minutes to ride from Durango to Silverton, about 10 minutes faster than the train. The first person across the finish line did it in 2 hours and 19 minutes. I got beat by a lot of old men and women but I finished.

Fred,

If you don't mind me asking,.....

What type/kind of bike did you ride ??

From the pictures, looks like you used a road
bike instead of the Stump Jumper, which makes
excellence sense.

Just wondering,

Larry,

Yup, it was a road ride and I needed every advantage I could get. It is a Giant OCR2 with a full composite carbon frame. The Stumpy and Sparkey got a nice 14 mile ride in on Sunday on The Colorado Trail towards Kennebec Pass.

Cat, I lied in the picture about beer. That one wasn't my first. At Silverton I was lured into a saloon by the smell of BBQ'd hamburgers and I consumed two beers while munching a half pound burger with fries. Back at our campsite near Durango I had a few more which accounts for the goofy smile and general good feeling.
