LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-03 AT 10:15AM (MST)[p]I got out one day this spring and just now got the film developed. Didn't find any browns, but here are the pics.

I had never found a shed with a base like that.

[img]http://www.hunt101.com/img/055317.jpg[img]

It was a small set, but I always enjoy finding sets together like that.

That is the only muley antler I have found that was broken off at the base from sparring.

I couldn't find the match to this one or the next one...

And finally, here is the reason why I only got out one day to look for sheds this spring.

[img]http://www.hunt101.com/img/055322.jpg[img]

But maybe it would have gone faster if I had better help...

My "helper" gave up on me that day and went to sleep on the concrete floor of the basement. I'm really not a bad foreman, he just makes it look that way :-)

Hope you all enjoyed the pics and I can tell you right now I will get out in the hills to look for sheds WAY more often next year!

Berto,

Great pictures, makes me wish it was spring already. Thanks for sharing and you did a good job on the house, it is still standing...

Dave

Nice pictures. Where you building your house? The little one will have a great place to grow up.

nice pics! nice house too! does that top shed have a hole in the base of it?

monroemtnshedfreak,

yes.

Elkseeker,

my house had better stay standing, it's built to seismic zone 3 requirements for concrete and framing! the concrete sub thought i was crazy when he realized how much rebar and how many sacks of concrete i wanted in the footings, walls and slabs. he told me some people have more money than sense and that he had been doing concrete work for 30 years and had never put in that much steel. i told him that i was looking at 30 years of debt to build this house, so it was going to be done right. The framer was really good about all the header requirements and such since he wasn't buying the materials.

i admit that the work has been done by subs for the most part, but i always end up doing the things the subs won't do to make it a damn good house.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Jealous of your house if you saw mine you would think
Fred Sanford lived there.
The hard work will pay off for you. I could learn a little
more about attention to home matters.
Good luck in the hunt this year.

Jerry,

i lived in sanford and son's house until this spring when i sold it and started building.

trust me, building the house has not been alot of fun. except for the one day i missed out on bone collecting this spring, i painted the inside of the house when it was 100+ F a few weeks ago, and i've lived in a camper with my wife and 3 kids all under the age of 5 for 10 weeks and counting. if i'm not careful i'll have a short hunting season again this year. i just hope my marriage survives long enough to finish the house and move in!

Berto,

It is good you found a good sub. A lot of times even though you are the person paying some of those subs like to cut corners. How many square feet is the house and where did you build it at, what is your closest town?

Dave

Nice pics Berto. Man that is scenic looking shed antler country. Although it could use some knapweed and leafy spurge to make me feel more like home.

Berto's been working his azz off this spring and summer, but this fall he gets retribution..........

Your house looks like it is almost done. Bet it will be nice to move in. The shed with the hollow base is likey from a stag. I have found close to 50 of them. Some of the antlers are normal like the one you found and others are wild looking. A lot of them if they are fresh have some velvet still on the antler. I have even found a few off of bucks that were taken the next hunting season in full velvet. I bet the antler Bucksnort has in the weridest shed post has a base that is hollow like the one you found.

berto,

Those are some cool pics.I like that terrain too,I bet it's awesome to shed hunt in the wide open like that.Congrat's on the new house also. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Antlerradar,

Actually I haven't found any sheds with hollow bases.I have found some weird ones though, one being totally covered with velvet.I have seen pics of a shed antlerking found it was hollow and really weird.

Elkseeker,

got to the message board main page and look in the upper left hand corner of the message board menu. you'll see a notification that you have a new message in your inbox. click on the notification and you're in.

RockyDog,

that scenic antler country is one of the last areas of this state that isn't overrun with noxious weeds. i'll do whatever i can to keep it that way. i think i'll start by NOT inviting you to come collecting with me so i'm sure you don't bring all the weed seeds that are stuck in the mud that's packed in your pick-up fenders, you redneck. hee hee

oh yeah, when is that lousy good for nothing dog of yours gonna find a shed that you haven't already picked up and thrown under his nose?

berto

Dear WeedSnob,

Unfortunately the only way to find an antler via HornDog is to follow his tracks in the snow and when you see them bound over an object in a 5 foot leap, there could be a large elk antler lying under his tracks.

HornDog actually did find a few deer sheds in the first 2 years of his horn career, but now he has lost interest.

Last year he actually did jump over a very large elk antler on a game trail in the snow.
