I have a Rem 700 and a Leupold scope that needs to be looked at. Luepold recommends I shim the rear base to get the elevation adj to work for the scope. Some have said not to shim and try new bases or mounts.

I was hoping a good gunsmith could look at the rifle/scope and make a recommendation on how to correct the issue properly.

Does anyone Know of a good gunsmith here in the Boise area?

I assume it's an old Vari X-II. they were famous for that and shims are the cure.

I'd put the money you're going to spend trying to get it to work on a newer and better Leupold.

You have something wrong then that scope has way more than enough adjustment. don't shim it, find the problem.

My first thought would be the scope has issues. the only other thing I can think of is you have mismatched bases or rings.

Not a better smith in the Treasure Valley than Jim Combe at Elite Rifle works. Good, honest guy that will treat you right!
