This will be the first year for the cow hunt. The herd is doing great. It will be interesting to see how the extra hunting pressure effects them. They also moved to bull hunt to start a couple weeks earlier this year, a terrible idea in my opinion. There are a couple larger herds on the unit and several smaller herds scattered. There are generally a few areas that they really like to be, it'll be a matter of if the pressure has pushed them out of those areas and if where they move to are places a guy really wants to deal with a downed animal of that size. You may want several strong backs, or a couple pack animals if you have to move one very far.
As for the area, take twice as much fuel as you think you need, have good spare tires, and plan for weather that will vary from being comfortable in T-shirts to down right bitter cold.
