California Hunters

Ok,
I have finally had a gut load of the reference to "California Hunters"
Just exactly do you mean when you make this reference in a negative way?
I was recently at an Arizona hunters education class with my son and this blowhard from Texas was sitting next to me.
He asked me where I was from, I said "Northern California", this jerk rolls his eyes and says "You ought to pack up your son & move to Texas!
"We got some real outdoors down there"

EXCUSE ME?!

Let's see, you drive your $50,000 dollar jacked up pickup truck out to your private lease (No public hunting land in Texas) that cost you thousands, sit on your fat ass in a deer blind & switch on the automatic corn flinger.
Oh, yeah, I gotta buy a $40,000 bass boat and fish for some of some of those green pond carp they fish for back there too.

Think I'll pass.

No I hunt pristine wilderness at over 8,00 feet where I set up my backpack spike camp seven miles in, Ain't no one holding my hand.
I'm in the heart of Boone & Crockett Blacktail country where I can shoot two bucks.
I have wild turkeys just about running me over.
I start fishing for gorgeous steelhead in January through April, chrome bright King Salmon from April through November on beautiful clean rivers.
I have no need to book a $5,000 Alaskan fishing trip.
I'm busy in the outdoors all year long, no leases, no guides, no expensive boats.
Do these people really think the whole state is Los Angeles?
Have they ever been here?
What gives?

California?
Yeah it really sucks...
HH

HH,
I hear ya. Not many places like this where you can go bow hunting for blacktails in the morning then take the skiff out to catch a couple salmon in the afternoon. Northern California has incredible hunting and fishing opportunities. We have our problems but where doesn't? Good post.

and looks like work."

Harry - couldn't agree with you more! I am here in Texas and there are nowhere near the opportunities here like you have there! If I don't have a boat, the best I can hope to catch is a 6 inch bluegill or maybe a small bass.

I hunted here once, it was fun, but I have shot coyotes bigger than some of these does! It was 50 degress in the morning but 90 in the afternoon, talk about shedding layers!

I could hunt turkey if I wanted to pay $1500 for the lease - that's a mighty pricey bird! (But I don't have to draw.)

The only thing I have to say to you is....

SSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!

UTROY
Proverbs 21:19 (why I hunt!)

Harry, I too don't like it when someone gives me the old "YOU ARE FROM CALIFORNIA" then rolls their eyes.
Being a Northern California native, I have grown up fishing its streams, rivers and lakes, oh I forgot the ocean. I have hunted ducks, geese, pheasant, quail, turkey, dove, deer, antelope, rabbits...well you get the picture.
I am very happy being from here.

HH i gotta agree with roy SHHHHHHHHH i always laugh at some of my texas relitives when they come visit and point to the foothills and talk about the huge mountains lol,,, lets see deer, pigs, turks,mt quail, valley quail, quackers, geese, pheasant, grouse, trout, green pond carp aka bass, blugill, crappie, kitty fish, i'm probablly forgetting something here ahhhhh ocean fish, surf and off the boats um these are things i've done this year alone, yea it really sucks here lol andddddddddddd i've even been to disneyland a few times to boot lol

I hate that reference too. Unfortunately the press makes all of CA look solely like Hollywood wackos and Bay Area weirdos. Not at all the case. A lot of Northern and NE CA is every bit as rural and wild as anywhere else in the West.

And even in SoCal, I've killed two deer over the last two years within 60-70 miles from where I also spend the summer catching tuna, dorado, yellowtail, shark, etc. It was also REALLY cold when I left for work this morning at 6:15. 42 degrees, in January, brrrr! It didn't even warm up much either, I think it's only about 65 out right now. I even had to put on a long sleeve shirt today.

Sure we have our problems with housing costs, traffic, and liberals, but overall, it's a great place to live.

The only way I would move would be to live on my own big ranch in a state where tags were easily obtained and trophy quantity and quality was very good. Unfortunately, I don't see that in my near-term future.

LOL HARRY, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN....CONSIDER THE SOURCE. I JUST GOT HOME FROM THE RANCH....POPPED 2 YOTES, SAW 2 BOBCATS,13 TURKEYS, 17 BUCKS & ABOUT 90 DEER, & 16 HOGS...NO SHOOTER BOARS. THE TEMP WAS 62 DEGREES WITH SUNSHINE....SOMEONE RESCUE ME, YD.

Finally had enough Harry? I thought you had enough last year? Isn't this the second post of this sort? :p :p Just kidding! ;-)

Just let it roll off your back man! Who in the hell cares what people of NO significance have to say??? I know that RR thinks a lot of you, and that's good enough for me!

How about me? I'm from Phoenix and head to La Jolla each August for vacation. To those in So Cal I'm a Zonie! I know that those who live in San Diego supposedly hate us Zonies because we clog up the streets & beaches. I don't let it bother me though. :)

Keep walkin with your head held high, no matter where you live!

S.

:)

DAMN KALI HUNTERS!!!

YOU GUYS ARE WELCOME TO COME & STOMP UTAH WITH 97,000 OTHER TARDS IF YOU'D LIKE!!!

I KNOW HH GETS A LITTLE MAD AT ME SOMETIMES BUT I STILL HAVE RESPECT FOR HIM NO MATTER WHERE THE HELL HE LIVES!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WISHING I WAS SHOOTING BIG BLACKTAILS WHERE theridge LIVES & CATCHING BIG SALMON WHERE HH LIVES!!!

Yea, green pond carp LOL! I like it when they pull that 4 pounder's head out of the water with 20 lb. test so it will do a little tail walk, and say "Man what a scrapper!"

Don't forget surf smelt, night fish, crabs, and clams. Red tail perch and ling cod fishing from the jetty.

Hard to beat them Texas turtles though. Right Roy?

I try not to put down hunters from different parts of the Country. Every place has their own style of hunting and what works for them. Lots of good honest hard working people all across this great land. It seems like we get picked on more than our share though.

We need a little rain HH. It's getting pretty clear. Still good fish to be had though.

Steve

I know what you mean. Some of the east coasters are great. My brother went to school in Virginia and when he told some guys back there he was from Cali. The only thing they thought of was L.A.,Hollywierd,and Beaches. When he told them he ski's out here they thought he was joking and said "there's mountains in California?" I live in Susanville and it does'nt get much better than this for a place to live.Hunting in the fall and winter,Fishing year round.Snowsports,watersports.You name it. But their are plenty of Cali.wacko's and I understand when others don't like us.I don't like some of us either. But the same thing can be said about others in all 50 states. Some good ones, some bad ones.

Thanks Guys!
Yes Steve, I've had my eye on the weather charts for your area every day.
I'll be up there after the next rain.
Kid can't wait either.

Bessy, that deserves a California "Buddy Hug"...
HH

Everyone loves to blame the Californians for everything here in eastern Oregon, to be honest the local yocals are the worst slob hunters as a rule. some of my best friends are California transplants, give them a chance and most of them are good guys.

I don't know if I would hunt as much if I lived in Texas. It could get pretty pricey. I've yet to hunt Cali.

Where in AZ did you attend the class?

Chef
"I Love Animals...They're Delicious!"

Nothing wrong with Northern Ca anything north of Chico is a well kept secret I grew up there and still hunt blacktails every year out there, I'm going to Red Bluff this weekend for a pig hunt. I always get a ton of crap for being from there, but the guys from Northern Ca hate the same lame "hunters" as everybody else if not more

>Bessy, that deserves a California "Buddy
>Hug"...
>HH

Ahem. Mods are gonna chase you two to a private chat room with that kind of talk. :)

Seriously though, consider the source. Doesn't surprise me that a Texan spouted off like that.

Kali has it all. This weekend we'll be off-roading through Death Valley and next weekend it'll be the family at Disneyland and in May we'll be trapesing through NoCal.

One of the best things about living in Vegas is having a world class outdoor playground next door.

I have lived in N.CA. for over 40 years and I would not move to another state for all the tea in china. Our hunting and fishing is first class. But I wish all you N.CA. hillbillies would keep quite about our great North state, we do not need anymore S.Ca. and bay area refugees moving here. Lets keep them going to S. Oregon like we have been doing for years.

RELH

Nor cal is pretty darn cool....buck hunting, steelhead fishing, honker hunting, pig hunting, etc. all within an hours drive. I love how the southern boys yank the lips off those green carp with 40lb gorilla braid, then talk about how they "almost" lost him. I'll take a dime bright 12lb steelie on 8lb test anyday. Caught a 17.5 pounder on the Eel last week.

blacktail

Harry, I have been to Texas a few times's. Our Corporate office is in Ft. Worth!!! And our Company ownes The Garret Ranch!!!Coming from The Pacific Northwest I know the guys in Texas would give there left gonad to live here!!! Good Luck

Been hearing that stupid expression since I went into the Army back in 64 and just try to let the "blow hards" make a fool of themselves.
Born, raised and still live here in NOCAL and wouldn't change it for nothing, unless I could find a large high fenced ranch with Record Breaking Turtles on them. LOL

We have it all..........

Brian

Bobcatbess............

Man you are in trouble BIG TIME, you forget one important other Kali Hunter your buddy.......D13 AKA DOUBLE D

Better get your Armour wear on.

Brian

I was born in California and have lived here my entire life. Don't bother to come here, the hunting and fishing is terrible. Ooopps, I got to run, I need to clean my limit of mallards and bull sprig and the limit of salmon I caught on the way home. Ignore that, I'm just dreaming again!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-07 AT 03:01PM (MST)[p]I'm wondering how many of us on MM are in California?
Me for one! ( No other State will have me!)

TM

NO CAL for me. There is no place like this that i have been. The fishing is killer and far as a mix bag of things to hunt no place i know can beat it. The mule deer hunting is not that great but still pops out a few big heads. We have world class elk, just have to wait for tags. All with in 2 1/2 hours all this can happen.Far as being able to hunt all kinds of things we are very lucky. Now if southern CAL would fall in the water we would all be in better shape.Just kidding(not really)

Well guys, I have had to listen to both sides of this story. I was born and raised in the central valley of California and hunted the Sierra Nevadas for years, I have since lived in Texas for a total of about three years. I will say that there is some public land in Texas, but it sucks! I have 4 hunting trips planned this year and not one in the state I live, Texas. I would rather hunt blacktails than pay for a lease here. The fishing doesn't even compare, out here in Texas a 15lb fish is big! Are you kidding me? In Texas the heat will kill you and then the cold will freeze the ground so they can't even bury you! We have had snow on the ground for the better part of a month with temps down below 0 degrees at times. I can't keep my dog outside because she will never have any water to drink, the bucket froze solid about a month ago and thaws out about once a week. These wackos from waco wonder why I don't get excited about living in the biggest and best state(Texas to them), and then I have to rant about how it sucks and I would rather live somewhere else. If you can live away from the big cities in Cali it is a much better place to be. The biggest problem here is they make a mountain out of a gopher mound, and they claim to be working on high rises when building an overpass! Oh, I wish I were able to be in Cali, shooting my bow outdoors and being able to go fishing without breaking the ice first! Half the year out here the rivers are dry anyway!
Why did you have to get me started?

Kalifornicated does get it's arse kicked more than most states. The surprising thing about CA is that there has been 3 non typical mulies killed that score over 300 inches and one that I believe scores either 298 or 299. No other state can boast that it has killed more bigger non typicals. Before someone wants to call me a liar, all the bucks are in B&C except for one 302" buck that has a broken skull plate. And, blakctails, we have PISSCUTTERS and dinky chili bucks.

FUNNY STORY.....I'M AT A SHOPPING CENTER IN MONTROSE COLORADO WATCHING HUNTERS COME & GO. IN THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT A CALI HUNTER BACKS INTO A TEXAS TRUCK, SMASHING THE DOOR IN. NOBODY SAW IT BUT A FEW GUYS FROM COLORADO, AND THEY WERE LAUGHING THERE BUTTS OFF BECAUSE CALI HIT TEXAS. THEY NEW THEY DISLIKED TEXAS MORE THAN CALI.... SO THEY SAID GET THE HELL OUTA HERE WE NEVER SAW NOTHING...THEY WERE REALLY HAVING A GOOD TIME WITH THIS. CALI HUNTER WAITED FOR TEXAS TO SHOW UP...THEN SETTLED UP...$$$$$. YD.

I say we vote Bobcatbess "Honorary Kalifornian".

The only EELGRASS thinking Barbra Boxer and Diane Feinstein might move out of Kali if Bobcatbess accepts.

I've never seen a picture of Bess, but my mind conjures up images of a wild night on the carpet with the CAT munching and purring all night long with both Boxer and Nazi Pelosi. Go get em CAT.

OK, I'm putting my neck on the chopping block big-time here,
but what the hell. Harry, I hate that some SOB from Texas
talked to you (especially around your son) like that. I'm sure
your fine son has 100% more sense than that moron. There are
plenty of idiots here in Texas. I know, I live here every day
and have to put up with them. To be quite honest, a lot of the
folk from Texas that rattle off this garbage have never been out
of the county they were born in. I can't say alot, as I'm
certainly no world traveler, but I certainly enjoy the great
mountain country that some of you guys get to see every day.
However, as some from California (or any state for that matter)
don't want to be stereotyped, neither do I.

I was born and raised here. I grew up with the concept of private land ownership as the big norm, as many in the Western
states grew up with a lot of Public land as the norm. There are
good and bad things about both, depending on which side of the
fence you're on. I'll live here all my life, and am just used
to Ranchers owning all of the land. I have great freinds in other states that think I'm insane, and they grew up surrounded
by millions of acres of BLM land.

I, personally, don't give a flying crap what state you are
living in. In fact, the folks from Cal. on this site have been
some of the nicest of all to me. Bar-none.

Harry, I've never met you, but I think you have a general Idea
of what I think about you and your boy. You seem like good folks. And I respect the way you do business. I admire your
passion about all subjects. Some Wuss's call it being opinionated. I say, your damned right, I'm opinionated too.

I appreciate the hell out of most of you ol'boys. All and all
you've treated this silly Texan pretty darned nice. Thanks.

Larry

YD,

Thanks for the kind words.

Kilowatt;

So you went into the army in 64. I joined up in 65 after getting out of high school. That means you heard this term many times about being from CA. "There is only two things from CA. queers and steers, and you do not have any horns". boy! the fight was on after that. The funny thing, I heard that statement from guys who were from N.Y. more then any other states. As Bess would say, that would be like the kettle calling the pot black.

RELH

RELH,

Yes I heard that so much too and sure would get my blood boiling back in those days. And you are right, most of that was by those NY & NJ guys.
I would like to say here what we use to call them but it would get nuked.

Yea, good old days of the 60's. I drank and chased girls for 4 years till I went into the Army, draft board breathing down my neck. LOL

Brian

Yeah you have heard me bash my home state. Yeah i have called
it the biggest hole of a state in the union. Maybe i better aploigize. It could be worse, I could live in the east coast and have to drink bottled water. I could be forced to fish for catfish, hunt whitetail. That right there makes me regret making those comments.

Look, I think the state itself is nice. Heck, nothing wrong with Tule elk. Its all these liberal that live here; that give me a migraine. You know em.. Pelosi...., T-Final, HuntDude....
I could name more but i won't.

The only bobcat proud to be from Kalifornia!!!!

Shhhhhhh! You guys are gonna spoil it. We have enough LA, SF, Sacto guys hunting our ducks for 2 weeks til the valley season opens, drawing OUR deer tags, Fishing OUR lakes. Don't let the whole nation in on OUR secret. It's alright for us to go out-of-state but don't let them come here. lol.

NECALI, Do i know you? Janesville.

I guess my thoughts when I made this post were what is it California hunters do when on an out of state hunt that makes them hate us so much?
What do they think we are?

The general impression I get is that they assume all of us are the guys that show up with the brand new jacked up 4x4, the shiny new rifle, we need our hands held in the woods and our asses wiped for us, we leave gates open, don't respect property ownership, shoot roadsigns, littering etc, etc.

When I hear these guys use the term "California hunter" I assume this is what they are referring to and it really pisses me off.

I hunt no differently than the guides that I learned from in Wyoming, Alaska, or Montana.

The backpacking, spiking out on top of the mountain, intense glassing for game, the love and respect of the outdoors & wildlife are the same, no matter where I'm hunting, whether I'm at home here in California or thousands of miles away.

HH!!!

I'M NOT BEING SMART!!!

BUT I WISH ALL UTARDS & KALI HUNTERS WERE ALL LIKE YOU!!!

I'VE HAD 2 CONFRONTATIONS WITH KALI HUNTERS OVER THE YEARS!!!

I'VE HAD 100'S OF CONFRONTATIONS WITH TARDS!!!

ALOT OF THE OLDER KALI HUNTERS CAN TELL EVERYBODY WHAT OUR DEER HERDS USED TO BE & WHAT THEY ARE TODAY!!!

ALOT OF TARDS BLAME KALI HUNTERS FOR HELPING WIPE OUT OUR DEER HERDS!!!

WHEN IN REALITY THE DWR & WITH HUMAN HELP TAKE THE BLAME IN MY BOOK!!!

JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL HERE IN TARDVILLE,YOU HUNT ANOTHER GENERAL SEASON ALONG WITH 96,000 FELLOW TARDS AND SOME OF THIS $HIT YOU SEE WILL JUST BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

I CAME TO A CONCLUSION MANY MOONS AGO!!!

TELL THE AVERAGE TARD HE CAN'T & HE'LL GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO SHOW YOU HE CAN & WILL!!!

THIS IS WHERE THE TUNE-UP COMES INTO PLAY!!!

GO AHEAD & TELL ME I'M WRONG,I AGREE I'M WRONG,I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE WRONG!!!

I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST KALI HUNTERS!!!

I'VE BEEN CALLED A VIGALANTE JUSTICE SPECIALIST BUT THATS O.K.,I DON'T HEAR ANYBODY BEACHING ABOUT THE VIGALANTES WORKING DOWN ON THE BORDER!!!

THE ONLY bobcat!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Not all Californians are bad, theres just so friggin many of you, that the bad definitely override the good. Arizona is being invaded by illegals from the south, and Californians from the west. I'm sure a lot of you come over for the December archery deer tags. Just wondering with all the California license plates out there with you, do you have to check the map to be sure your out of Cali?

All the Californians that come over and hunt, and do it right, stop by, I'll buy you a beer or cook you up a steak.

To the majority of you that come over and pound the roads to moondust, blow your bugle out the window, leave gates open, shoot the wrong species (I've seen this more than I can count on one hand), go pound sand. But according to all you on this site, your all angels.

Is that ethical?

I think what goes against the grain the most is what seems most californicated hunters have a truckload of money and aren't afraid to wave it in our face as if thats what makes them a better hunter as they have all the latest gadget put out by Cabela's. Then you find them half-way up the mountain with a down cow and no idea what to do next. Is that the picture you had in mind HH?
Driftersifter

Driftersifter,
Truckload of money????
That's a good one.
I've pulled off some big hunts only through sacrafice.
PB&J sandwiches, selling my nice pickup & driving a POS Subaru so I could hunt Kodiak bear etc, etc....
Most people are lazy and aren't willing to do what it takes to acheive their dreams.
Maybe I don't belong in California.
I've been up to my elbows in dead animals almost every single day for almost 30 years.
The fact that I've been a butcher for 29 years kind of helps this Californicated hunter on that dead cow elk too!
As far as all the latest gadgets?
I only wish.
This entire picture of the "California Hunter" is f'in nonsense.
Nothing more than a generalization.
But that's just my opinion.
I see the roadhunting slobs wearing license plates from every state, barrels hanging out the window & a Coors between the legs.
There are snobby, wealthy lazy slobs from every state as well.
The "California Hunter" is a great stereotype that local yocals just love to throw around.
I've heard of pickups with Cali plates being vandalized by local folk too.
God have mercy on the poor ahole that tries that on this Cali boy.

As much as i hate Calif polititions, liberals, democraps, antihunters, animal activists, tree huggers in the bay area, i still do live here and still have freedom to hunt and fish many parts of the state whenever i want to unlike TEX.How ironic is that?

Califelkslayer

Your attitude amazes me. Our ducks, our deer and our lakes. Hmm, I thought I was a Californian as well! This entire post is about stereotyping and how we Californians hate being labeled. But instead of sticking together it is guys like you that tear us apart. I know there are idiots out there that don't do the right thing but every state has that. I guess because Cali has such a large population it is magnified. Yeh I'm a Bay Area HUNTER that loves California and would not trade it for anything in the world. I'm in a very small minority that feels that California has the potential to be considered one of the best places in the U.S. to hunt. It is already one of the best places to fish. But we need to stick together and pressure our DFG to do more for our wildlife and support them in any way we can. We need to support orginizations that do a lot for wildlife here as well. I know we are fighting an up hill battle with all the radical liberals and tree huggers but California can be much greater than it already is. It is not like this state could not afford the kind of revenue that Colorado or Montana draws every year from outside hunters. I could go off more than I already have. Where else can you hunt Rcky Mt Elk, Roosevelt Elk, Tule Elk, Mule Deer, Blacktails, Antelope, Desert Bighorns, Black Bear, Wild Pigs, Geese, Ducks, Quail, Dove, Chukar, Pheasent, Turkey, Coyote, Bobcat and Lions (damn I forgot). Let's stick together and make this state or kids can brag about and nonresidents dream about hunting. You get the point.

HH, you know I'm not diggin' on ya and that I would hunt with ya in a heartbeat, so don't take this the wrong way, but see how it pisses you off how people misread you just based on the fact that you are from Cali and think that you're some granola crunching idiot who lives in San Fran?? Well, you did the EXACT same thing to us Texans in your first post!!
Read on below for a quote from ya from that first post..

>EXCUSE ME?!
>
>Let's see, you drive your $50,000
>dollar jacked up pickup truck
>out to your private lease
>(No public hunting land in
>Texas) that cost you thousands,

>too.
>
>Think I'll pass.

Not all of us are that stereotypical Ahole Texan you described. Just the same as you Cali guys aren't that inner city idiot that some people portray you to be.
Again, I'm not baggin on ya, I was just getting fed up with all the TX bashing going on on this topic. I think everyone knows that TX isn't as bad as you western state guys try to make it out to be, just as Cali isn't as bad as we say it is..Hell, I've hunted Cali a few times and loved it..

I just figured somebody's gotta defend TX here!!

Interesting thread. I wish I'd gotten into it sooner, but I've been very busy ridding our state of part of it's waterfowl population lately. It's been pretty tough to take, 55 degree afternoons, getting to the blind around 1:00 and shooting limits of specklebellies before dark most days. Quite a few mallards, sprig, teal and other ducks around too.

The end of the season in this "screwed up state" was pretty darned good, other than the last two days. Now, youth weekend this Saturday and Sunday. Heck, I might even have time to look at this thread after that.

Califhuntn, You missed my scarcism. "lol" and "we hunt out-of-state but don't want anyone here" were purely sarcastic. I could tell you the deer you hunt eat my plants and rub my trees during the winter, that I do volunteer guzzler work and work on the local refuges in the summer, etc just to improve your hunting. And my gas prices go up $.10 a gallon on opening weekend of Deer and Duck season. Instead I was making an attempt at humor with scarcism.

The only advantage I have living in "God's Country" is that I can learn the country well wether its watching where the honkers are going every evening after work, see what effect the freeze-up has had on the ducks, how the chukar are doing in August in a certain canyon and if I ever draw MY tag, pattern MY buck for a whole month before the season. I live here but other than my lil piece, its not mine, its PUBLIC!

I've helped a guy from Chico scouting 5B for deer while I was sage grouse hunting cause I know I'll never draw that tag, helped a guy from Sacto get un-stuck in Nov although i still don't know why he didn't have chains when in snow country, I gave up a day of my son's youth elk hunt in utah to pack a resident's son's elk out on my horses.

Guess with 4 posts I should have overlooked your failure to see the humor. Hunter

I like California hunters. Please come to Utah and hunt as a
NR every year. I will take to you every place I know. I will help guide you on a LE hunt. I will give you suggestions on where to apply in Northern Utah.

Why, you ask? "Californian's" are one of our biggest assets as
hunters. Who better to battle all the liberal propaganda in their home state. I can bet, without them, hunters would worse
off than we are now.

Its hypocritical to bash someone as a "Rich Californian". I wonder if some of these bashers own hotes, convenience stores, restaurants, sell hunting equipment....etc.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-01-07 AT 08:42PM (MST)[p]Scottyboy;

If you want to really get bashed as a "Texan", just go to wyoming. I have had many a NR hunt there and have been treated greatly by the locals.
When commenting to them about how well they treated this California hunter, this is what they replied several times.
You Ca. hunters are welcome here because you show respect for our game and property and understand what a "No Tresspassing" sign means. Those damn Texan oil-gas field workers come up here and after working here for 6 months, they think they own the state. They will trespass and cut fences, leave gates open and shoot anything that walks, flys or craws.
I had a store manager in Lusk, Wyoming tell me this, and heard similar stories from locals in Sundance, Kemmer, and Douglas, Wy. Some of these people were very open about their distaste for your fellow Texans. I even had one gamewarden near Medicine bow, Wy. tell me that he does not care for most of the oil field Texans because they had a habit of violating game laws that he has not seen with hunters from other states.
It seems this very small group of migrant oil field workers are the ones who have given most Texans a bad name as hunters.

P.S. Do you know why most Texans wear a big belt buckle. They have nothing else below it to brag about. Just joking, one of your fellow Texans told me that joke.

RELH

LAST EDITED ON Feb-01-07 AT 11:21PM (MST)[p]Welcome aboard Jeff. I know you'll enjoy it and laugh your a$$ of @ times. If you ever draw a famous 5B tag or even 5A,x4 or x6A let me know. I'll steer you right. Hunter

The California hunters I've meet tend to be on the serious side of the sport. Unfortunately, the rest of the state gives you a bad name.

HunterHarry,

See What the Hell I'm talking about!!!
We all need to Shut-Up, Yea, even you Harry,
and get the Hell on down the road. This is the
Biggest bunch of BS I've seen in a while. Let's all
get our little hurt feelings in check and get the
CRAP on down the road. KNOW WHAT I MEAN. It's time to
start putting in for Hunts.
I've had my fill of this crap.
Let's get the heck on with life.

YukonDall,
I also have a lot of respect for Harry.
He knows what I'm talking about on this post.
I'm sure he's glad to have you there to take up
for him. I've just spyed a tad bit of hypocracy on
this little thread. Thats all. If I overstated, then I
apologize. As I said earlier, the CA folks on here have
been darned nice people.

RACKMASTER,
I'm afraid I have to admit, that's damned funny.

I learn't a long-long-long time ago... it's not where yer from, jerk-wads live everywhere...
One of the most helpful stranger/hunters I've run into was a guy from Cal, in Wyoming... antelope hunting...

I moved from California to Utah 12 or so years ago. I kick myself in the hind-end every day for being so stupid. Born in and lived 46 years in California. I never failed to fill a deer tag, hunted and fished more there than I ever have here in Utah. Knowing what I know now, I would never have left California.

Californians

So as not to be outdone by all the redneck, hillbilly, and Texan jokes, somebody had to come up with this, you know you're from California if:

1. Your coworker has 8 body piercing's and none are visible.

2. You make over $300,000 and still can't afford a house.

3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a conversation in English.

4. Your child's 3rd-grade teacher has purple hair, a nose ring, and is named Flower.

5. You can't remember . . is pot illegal?

6. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.

7. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are grown, and you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.

8. You can't remember . . . is pot illegal?

9. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears.

10. Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the U.S.

11. Unlike back home, the guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney.

12. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.

13. You can't remember . . .is pot illegal?

14. It's barely sprinkling rain and there's a report on every news station: "STORM WATCH."

15. You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all busy with their cells or pagers.

16. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour early to avoid all the weather-related accidents.

17. HEY!!!! Is pot illegal????

18. Both you AND your dog have therapists, psychics, personal trainers and cosmetic surgeons.

19. The Terminator is your governor.

20. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're here illegally, they want to give you one.

LoL, I have been in Nor Cal for 40 years, born and raised. Sure has changed alot in those 40 years. I sill wouldnt leave it though. I can hunt and fish all year long. I do wish LA and SanFran would fall into the ocean though. Wouldnt hurt my feeling a bit.
Brian

The best days to hunt and fish, Are those that end in a "Y"

I guess that I am double screwed, I was born and raised in CA. and I am a hillbilly on top of that. GEE! maybe thats why I live in the hills of Northern CA. I feel right at home. I second dropping S.F. & L.A. into the ocean. I just hope that two female senators are home in S.F. when it happens.

I'm all for starting a campaign to throw those two old bags out of office ASAP. We need some real Leadership in a State this large and diverse!

TM

Harry, I was in the hunter ed class with you and like you I hunt out of state every year. I agree with your comments I have recevied the looks from locals after seeing my Ca plate. I guess they just see us as city boys who know nothing of the outdoors and can not see us as just good ol boys like them. Im sure we have are share of bad apples making wrong impressions out there, and I guess I would be a little upset at a bunch of out of state hunters invading my local hunting spots which does not seeem to be a problem in this state. I dont really let it bother me its not going to affect my hunt and some of them have come to respect me when they see how I hunt and what lengths Im willing to go to trying for a trophy. Besides I get a kick out of the local boys driving by road hunting when I come out of the backcountry with a large rack strapped to my pack.

No matter what state you are from or what state you hunt in, you are going to see good, ethical hunters and you are going to see "ahole" hunters. And even the definition of "ahole" hunter will vary depending on what each of us consider ethical.

I believe that the majority of us in any state are ethical, law abiding and trully care for the wildlife that we search for. In regards to the others, all we can do is try to educate them on the small stuff and report them on anything major.

As a Californian, I can testify that not all of us are rich and not all of us are spending oodles of money to chase those records. I personally am just barely in the middle class bracket and I have not hunted out of state for several years. Instead, I have decided to concentrate on helping the wildlife where I can and just hunting in state for my game. Granted, it is not as exciting as going to Montana or Wyoming or Colorado on multi-species hunts, but I fill my freezer each year and I know that when I go onto to the next part of my journey, I will have made a difference.

Each of us have different expectations and goals. As long as we all do it legally and ethically, can we really criticize the other guy?
