Camping near Atlanta

Heys guys,

A friend and I are looking for a camping spot in the greater Atlanta area over 4th of July week. 3 kids 9 and under, and a couple dogs. No facilities needed other than a flat spot for a tent. Our main concern is not ending up next to a bunch of partiers. Next would be something for the kids. Water of somekind, or some rocks or hills to climb on. Maybe a little fishing.

I see a bunch if hot springs on the middle fork of the Boise. Is that area generally pretty crowded?

Any recommended hikes in the area?

Thanks in advance.

If Hunting and Angling Ended
There is no alternative funding system
in place to replace the potential lost
funds for conservation. If hunting and
angling end, funding for wildlife
conservation, including enforcement of
all wildlife laws, will be jeopardized.
Hunters, anglers and shooters actively
support wildlife conservation through
tangible actions such as buying licenses
and paying taxes on hunting, fishing and
shooting equipment. Why are hunters and
anglers so willing to support
conservation through their pocketbooks?
Because people place added value on ?
and are willing to pay for ? what they
can use.

If you go through Atlanta you will find lots of spots to camp. There is a hotsprings once you drive through Atlanta, its on the right side of the road and then there are some small hotsprings down along the river. As far as fishing goes, its much better below Atlanta. If your driving up from highway 21 keep your eyes upen once you get above Twin Springs. In the really deep holes you will often find nice bull trout...but have to release them. Never really tried flyfishing much, always throw rooster tails. Haven't really fished up there much since my fishing partner passed away....good luck and if you have any questions just shoot me a PM. Good luck

Thank you

Unless they have recently graded the road, it is VERY rough. I suggest coming in to the N Fork via Idaho City, instead of all the way to Atlanta or through Middle Fork.

It is pretty once you get there. If you do go all the way to Atlanta, then get off the Middle Fork road. Day trip to Hot Springs. Cars and Dust, not good.

There's a lot of non developed camp spots in that country, I'd plan on leaving early AM and make the exploration for a spot part of the site seeing fun.

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Jun-18-18 AT 03:23PM (MST)[p]Like was already said, lots of dust and you won't get away from the people that week... but with that said, there are plenty of places to camp above and below Atlanta and water to fish. great country up there and plenty of places to hike. You might look up on the north fork as well. Maybe a little less dust but maybe fewer people as well "MAYBE". Also a nice little river to fish and country to explore. Have a great time!

Thank you. Much appreciated.
