That’s awesome. Glad it was real.My son did get the Unit 10 Late Rifle as we thought- Good to be planning more hunt time!
See ya there!"Lucky" tag #13 for me.
Unit 27 early archery.
JVGunner.....curious how many points you had.Early Archery Unit 1 Tag 11.
178,000 applicants just 5 years ago. 5 years jumped almost 50k people. No wonder it's harder to draw an average tag.By the numbers:
It doesn't seem like that many years ago when 120,000 applicants were breaking records and now look where AZ is at.
- 24,863: The total number of hunt permit-tags issued.
- 225,376: The total number of those who applied for hunts or bonus points.
- 184,489: The total number of applications submitted.

Don't be afraid to go to the far west side of 9. There are tanks out there on the edge of cataract and some big bulls. It's antelope country, but plenty of elk too.I know a guy that has two kids that pulled youth antlerless tags in unit 22 and lucked into an early archery unit 9 bull tag along with his seventy four year Vietnam veteran Dad who plans to use his vertical bow.
That same guy also pulled a unit 10 rifle Antelope tag (his first after 26 years) with max points.
As you might guess, he is a resident and I happen to be THAT GUY. I suspect it is good karma for attending Game and Fish meetings advocating against corporate hunting/expos/trail cams and being the designated draw application coordinator in a big extended family for almost 30 years (since the paper application era). My family also didn't play the group app tag return loophole or bid out for point donors on the web this year, we got our tags by luck and diligence.
We also wont be hiring a guide but I wouldnt refuse intel if someone has any ideas they are willing to share. Particularly about where I might be able to find a remote waterhole where I can put my Dad for the season without too much competition.
Hope everyone has a healthy and happy fall. God bless the bonus point state of Arizona where some of us can still do it old school. I will be in my old red 2004 Tacoma if anyone needs a hand in the boonies or a cold bottle of water or a yank with my tow strap. Keep the faith, it could be you next year.
Take care
Ryan
Thanks sremim, those sound exactly like the kind of tanks my Dad will be looking for. I have never hunted 9 before but have driven through it several times accessing other units. It sounds like it has enough variety for a wise old water hole hunter and his dumber timber sneaking bugle chasing son. Should be a blast and thanks again for the info.Don't be afraid to go to the far west side of 9. There are tanks out there on the edge of cataract and some big bulls.
