Chetco Elk

I drew an elk tag in the Chetco unit first rifle season. Just looking for a place to start scouting this summer. Also, would it be worth while to purchase a southern coastal deer tag for that unit so I can hunt deer and scout. Any info would be appreciated. I can exchage hunting info for NV, ID, and CA.

I'm originally from that neck of the woods. I still have some connections down that way, and will do some checking. You may as well get the blacktail tag. The season this year is going to be running several days later than usual, which makes all the difference catching a good buck rutting. The elk are scattered. Regardless your headed into some tough country.I will get back to you.

Thanks for the post. I talked to the biologist and he stated the same information you did. Thick rough country, but some nice elk were taken out of that unit last year. I am definately going to buy the black tail tag now.
