CO 1st Season Bear

Drew a 1st season elk tag this year and the unit offers OTC bear for $101.75 which seems like a no brainer to me but I've never hunted bear and have seen a handful in my 2nd season hunts. What is different from 1st season to 2nd season and would you buy the tag if it was you? Thanks for any feedback.

I had an early rifle deer tag last year. Wish I would have bought a bear tag. I saw a couple without even trying to look where they should be. I imagine the bears will be where the elk are. I saw my bears in a canyon bottom near water, berries, and thick cover.

In my part of the world the bear population is way over objective as it is in many parts of the state. Early season they'll be hitting water and acorns.. If you get an elk or locate a gut pile that would a prime spot to hunt. They can't pass up a good guy pile.
