I think elk have a few more weeks to finish off their tops. From past experience, trail cams still showed growth well into July. Yeah, it won’t be much, but some decent rain here soon might add a little to their final growth.I'll take what we can get, but for now the only hope is a good monsoon gets the elk healthy for a good rut. Antler growth is about done so rains won't help much there. Maybe could help the deer finish out strong.
Thanks for the info SlowElk. I was up in 7e last Wednesday (7-7-21) and I could not believe how dry it was. It was this dry last year as well, and the elk never did start talking during the entire hunt.
On another mission, I was in 6A this past friday and monday. I saw 3 different bunches of cows & calves in the area we hunt when we draw that unit. Plenty of water around and greening up nicely. Mormon lake is completely dry so there were zero elk out there. I don't know where you hunt but look west & south of Mormon lake to Broiller Park !Good for you Gator can’t wait to see how you do.
I’ll be over in 6A for Archery Elk hope it gets some of that rain.
Whew! "Be careful what you ask for" sure applies here.Everything in moderation I suppose.
It sure does!Well, the monsoon was late in coming this year, but sure looks like it’s making up for lost time!
Roy everyone blamed the lack of Rut activity last year due to the drought and dry conditions. With all this rain do you expect it will help kick the Rut into gear more in line with a normal year of ?This rain really is too late for elk antler growth, as they’re about done. But it will help the water hole situation.....and help the deer antler development.
