I'll take what we can get, but for now the only hope is a good monsoon gets the elk healthy for a good rut. Antler growth is about done so rains won't help much there. Maybe could help the deer finish out strong.

I think elk have a few more weeks to finish off their tops. From past experience, trail cams still showed growth well into July. Yeah, it won’t be much, but some decent rain here soon might add a little to their final growth.

Decent rain here in Flagstaff this afternoon. First good rain in a long time. Still a ways to go, but a good start!

hope the burn area's catch some of those showers and get the green started back up.
Any pictures of the damage that those fires did up around Pine and Strawberry area's.

Good for you Gator can’t wait to see how you do.
I’ll be over in 6A for Archery Elk hope it gets some of that rain.
On another mission, I was in 6A this past friday and monday. I saw 3 different bunches of cows & calves in the area we hunt when we draw that unit. Plenty of water around and greening up nicely. Mormon lake is completely dry so there were zero elk out there. I don't know where you hunt but look west & south of Mormon lake to Broiller Park ;) !
Good luck & keep us posted!

I’ve had over 4 inches in 2 days at the house here in Flagstaff. Water is flowing everywhere. Hopefully this keeps up and all those tanks begin to fill up.

Steady soaking rain is good, and needed badly. My son on the HotShot crew says you can't believe how dry it is everywhere they go. Flash flooding is bad right now. Watched the videos from Zion Canyon, just like Flagstaff!!

On the other hand, my buddy in Matagorda Texas has gotten 52" in the last 3 weeks!!!!!

Well, the monsoon was late in coming this year, but sure looks like it’s making up for lost time!
It sure does!
The emotions of an Elk Hunter;
When I drew my elk tag this year, I knew the conditions were exceptionally dry, just like last year. But I was thankful to at least have a tag. Last year I was just along for the fun!
Then, when it still didn't rain, & the forest service was forced to close the forest completely, I hoped it would at least rain enough to open the forest back up.
It did & they did! (y)
I took a drive up there last week to check things out and was sad to discover that about a third of where we hunt is charred black from multiple fires.
Now, I'm curious to see how fast those burned areas green up and will the elk use them if they do?
What the heck! At least I drew a tag & I get to actually hunt this year. :)
Clearly, I am getting too emotional about all this!

Just got back from a week in Reno at the P&Y Convention. Over 3.5” in my gauge and everything is green and muddy! All fire restrictions have also been lifted for the Apache-Sitgreaves Forest!

This rain really is too late for elk antler growth, as they’re about done. But it will help the water hole situation.....and help the deer antler development.

Roy everyone blamed the lack of Rut activity last year due to the drought and dry conditions. With all this rain do you expect it will help kick the Rut into gear more in line with a normal year of ?

I really do expect it to be much better this year......right now it’s in the 60’s and raining and everything where I’m at is greened up well.....almost all of the water holes around my place are full.

Looks to be plenty wet Thursday-Saturday with heavy rains and flash floods in the forecast. Hope the tanks fill completely. The burn scars will have it rough.

I hope that rain forecast map is correct. If Coconino county gets 3-4 inches rain over next 72 hours that for surely should fill some tanks. Bring it!

Navajo County is looking real good. All of the washes have run and the Puerco, Little Colorado, Silver Creek, Chevlon, and Zuni were running last night. The Lil Colorado is going strong. That great sage scent is back too and I find myself just taking it in at glassing spots. It’s one of my favorite smells.
