I WANT TO BUILD A A SEMI CUSTOM 300 WIN MAG. MY QUESTION IS WHAT ACTION TO USE. DO I BUILD IT OFF A REMINGTON, SAVAGE, OR RUGER FRAME. ALSO DO I GO OUT AND BUY A NEW RIFLE OR FIND ONE USED. HERE IS WHAT I WANT, A STAINLESS ACTION AND BARREL WITH A THUMBHOLE STOCK WITH THE RIGHT GUNSMITHING AND OPTICS TO BE A COMFORTABLE 50O YARD HUNTING RIFLE. ALSO DO I GO WITH OR WITHOUT A MUZZLEBREAK?

Buy an after market actoin ready to build on..If you had one already it would make sense to use it..But buying a donor rifle for the action, then after 500 $ worth of "bluprinting" work puts you in the custom action price range..so just go with one from the get go, you wont be sorry..

My pick: http://defiancemachine.com/rebel-action/

Barrel, contour/length of your choice with a 1-10" twis:

Stock: http://www.mcmillanusa.com/new-stocks.php

Scope: http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shoo...flescopes/mark-4-lrt-4-5-14x40mm-30mm-target/

send it to gre-tan, have them throat it for your bullet of shoice..No muzzle brake

do you need all that to shoot to 500? nope, an off the shelf 30'06 will do that, know your weapon.

for 1500 i'd recommend picking up a factory gun that you like, put maybe a boyds laminate thumbhole on it and a VX-3 4.5-14LR with M1 TT or an MOA CDS. you will be very close to your 1500 mark if you are thrifty.

I really dont think you are going full custom or even semi custom with a 1500 dollar budget..if you buy a donor rifle you could roll the dice on a simple re-barrel from pac-nor..but there is nothing that says it will shoot when you get it back.

rem 700 donor 350-450$

boyds laminate thumbhole 250$

pacnor chamber/barrel 550$

bedding, trigger work, 200$ if you have it done

you could do it cheaper if you use a savage

You can Buy a Silver(Stainless!) Remington 700 reasonable!

I'll disagree with REDDOG on the Stalk & go with a Bobby Hart Thumbhole Elaminated with Aluminum Bedding Block!:D

A LEUPOLD even though they are considered Junk around here!

As REDDOG said on the Price,or save a little more Cash & have exactly what you want when you get done!

It's just Money,don't cut corners!

For what it is worth I bought a Tikka T3 lite for my father in 300wsm two christmas' ago. We mounted a cheaper Nikon prostaff 3x9 on top of it with the BDC reticle. He shoots 180 grain federal fusions. Nikons website has their "spot on technology"
That program allows you to select from various companies factory ammo or custom loads and ballistics/enviromental conditions that you will be shooting in. We used it and I am way impressed with how a person can really extend his shooting capability for very little money. We tested the system and it is pretty dang accurate. We were drilling paper plate sized rocks out to 750 yards. $550 for the gun....$140 for the scope and cheap factory ammo. All i can say is I would not hesitate to shoot 500 yards with this setup and it is rediculously cheep.
