Can someone help me with Elk hunting in Canada? Would you try B.C or Alberta for the best elk numbers. Is geting a tag nearly impossible and anyone ever had any luck wth the "host" idea-that not requiring a outfitter? Are there some Outfitters that let a guy hunt on his own and not charge alot? I am from the Midwest and hunt mostly with rifle. thanks

Monarch,
Both BC and Alberta have good elk numbers and good trophy potential. Both have numerous elk in the top of the B&C. BC holds the World Record Nontypical. In BC, you can't do the "host" thing unless you have dirrect blood relatives (ie. mom, dad, brother, sister) that are BC residents. There are many good elk outfitters within the province. We have over the counter tags so getting a tag is not problem. The Guides and Outfitters Association of BC website is www.goabc.org It has links to individual outfitter's websites. The Kootenay Region is the best place to get a trophy bull. The Peace Region is also good.
