Encampment/Saratoga Logistics

we were fortunate to draw a few tags this years and will be spending time around the Encampment/Saratoga area this fall and we have a few logistics we need help with. We will be coming up from the south through Waldon and will be pulling a camper preferring to set up on the BLM. Is there ample places we could access to set up camp? Recommendations?

We also need water. Is there someplace we can get filled up?
We will also need to a dump station. Is there a dump station available?

Is the area OHV friendly for road use on town and county roads?

A good beer, steak and or burger is always in order too. Where's the best place to get a good evening meal?

We appreciate the assistance.

Al

It's been a bit since I've been through Waldon but you should have no problem filling or dumping your trailer there...

Go to the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce FB page and send them a message about dump stations in town there, you can call them as well.
Services in Encampment and Riverside for water and dump stations:

Good places in Saratoga to eat, Wolf Hotel is historic, Bellas Bistro for Italian or pizza, Firewater Public House, Hugus for breakfast.
Free hot spring soaking pool with showers.
BLM camping all over, NF too, for free or some FS and private campgrounds with services.
Bring your fishing gear.

Hey thanks for the thoughtful response. We prefer BLM to camp. Is their a good BLM, county, or other specific road you would be willing to recommend that wouldn't be to difficult to navigate with a camper that would have some campsites?

I would not take my camper down the Transfer RD, you can but stop short of North Spring Creek. Use CR 387 or 604 if camping in the area you want to hunt.

We have a type 2 tag for the southern part.

Thanks wytex for the information. I'll look at those county roads.

If your coming up from the south make sure you research poudre river pass. It's very steep and very hard on vehicles pulling trailer. It is about a 40 min drive straight up. We usually drive up to Laramie and then back SW. Also riverside south of Saratoga had a great bar and grill last year during deer season. I'll be back there in September hunting elk. PM more for further questions.

Saratoga has the free hot spring soaking pool with showers if needed.
We'll be coming over from Laramie for that same type 2 tag hunt. Be patient and look over some bucks.
Sage grouse season end of Sept and few to be found in 52.
Lots of easy camping on the BLM, no trees though down low, well one spot has a few.
Weekdays are best hunting to avoid locals.
Good luck, we like the area and the hunting over there.

We have a few camping spots picked out and noticed the North Platte River-Treasure Island area. The wives are liking this location but not sure we can pull our 27 foot trailer in there and noticed sites are rather limited. Any insight about usage this time of year and camp trailer access?

I'll probably be back with a few more questions.

The county roads are fine for a big trailer, Treasure Island should have decent road. BLM across the highway and the roads there are fine for your camper but not many if any trees.
