Wednesday night my wife was in a meeting.
The woman conducting the meeting tested positive for COVID the next day.
Found out Saturday as I was heading out to scout for three days.
Isolation for the next two weeks or until I can get tested sometime after next weekend.

I intended this to be a do it myself hunt with the only draw tag I've ever pulled.
A-7 archery (X-4) mule deer is the objective.
At this point I wouldn't turn down suggestions or recommendations on where to take my boots and binos when I can leave the house.

Fingers crossed we come out untouched.

Grab some gear and use this time to head up and familiarize yourself with road systems. Just camp in NF, no need for campground. I'm sure your wife would appreciate some new scenery for a couple days. That'll give you an idea of where to start scouting more seriously in July. When I (or family member) draw x zones I spend the most time on the ground in Mid-late July and again 1st week in August.

It's been a week since exposure.
Not dead yet.
Wife has calmed down and thinks it would be a good idea
if we went camping with the dog away from 4th of July fireworks.

Yep going camping with boots, bino's & beer.

Plan is lots of miles to learn the roads &
hours looking through the optics.
Hopefully find good areas to focus on during the next two or three
scouting trips.

I thought the correct way of doing this was to say your great grandma drew the tag, and you really wanted your wheelchair bound grand parents to be able to be a part of the hunt, something about young children not being able to hike very far?? You know, the usual please help me kill my buck?
Are people starting to learn a new technique????

Bucks in the velvet is a great time to scout and the sunshine and exercise is the best thing to do now. Enjoy.

Time to up date.

Three days exploring the road system between Eagle lake
and Harvey Mtn.
Not what I expected at all.
No significant logging or fires (except near the lake.).
Heavy timber & the spotting scope was useless.

No identifiable trails or cut banks except in the game refuge.
Which of course is no use to me.

Guess what, two different Antelope Mtns.
One on either side of the lake north & south.
So no telling which mountain the limited online posts are
referring to.

I can say I found a couple of areas that interest me.
I'll be back in two weeks to dig a little deeper.

This weekend pigs & I try to put my brother in-law on his
first ever kill.

With the strong winds forecasted, the Hog fire is going to make a run up in the s.w corner of the unit. Hope they can get a handle on it....

Just got home.
Tried using back roads to get where I wanted to go.
The Hog fire cut me off from the entire south end of the zone.

Looked further into where I had gone two weeks ago.
Not a waste of time, but not what I had in mind.

One more trip in two weeks.
Then I have to commit to my scouting results.
