Expo on line

If you add up the expo and conservation tags there are well over 500 LE and OIL tags taken from the public draw.

When people start talking about season changes to help with point creep, instead of handing ONE MORE advantage to these groups, how about we put some of these tags back in the public draw first?

I did math on how many of each species was given away a couple years ago, and I believe it was well over 150 elk tags every year. (I need to check my data for accurate figures) When you run that on a 5 year cycle to coincide with the 5 year waiting period, that’s almost 1,000 extra people out of the elk pool EVERY year if these go back into the public draw. Switching around seasons will not add 1,000 tags to the mix. It’s just sickening people continue to fall for the smoke and mirrors on this one.

Then multiply that yearly total number of permits by 17, which I believe is the total number of years this expo has been going on (2005 if i not mistaking. It was somewhere around that time) and that number is absolutely disgusting that they’ve stolen from your average public hunter. Memories and opportunities from nearly countless families and friends that they would have had, if $FW hadn’t stolen these permits for private greed.

and the quality of these 200 tags has dropped significantly. It’s so bad that they are offering cow tags now just to reach their magic 200 number as advertised. Imagine being the guy who draws that tag. You’ve just won’t the lottery, but the prize is only $55. Congrats! ?

I think its fantastic. Nothing was stolen and people who don't hunt get to see that wildlife has great value. They may not hunt but they have to recognize the symbiotic relationship between hunting, wildlife, and a state's economy.

Are they doing an expo in Texas?

This year there was an HSC online auction, a DSC online auction, an RMEF online auction, I think the San Antonio and Odessa chapters of SCI did online auctions.

How is taking a tag that anyone can draw and putting that same tag in an auction that 90% of hunters can't justify spending that kind of money not stealing from one group to give to another?

Definition of steal

(Entry 1 of 2)
intransitive verb
1: to take the property of another wrongfully and especially as a habitual or regular practice

Let's see here. First of all they have just as much right as anyone to decide the distribution model used on the tags. Remember how you say its "yours". Well in all reality it is just as much "theirs" as "yours". So they actually get a say at the table on how the tags are distributed. I know its hard to believe but those rich people are equal in ownership and rights to you. Second, it was done using legal and not "wrongful" means.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it theft.

One interesting flaw in your logic is this quote.

"stealing from one group to give to another"

Nobody is "giving" anything to them. They are purchasing it for money, which is completely legal in a capitalist republic. Just take the emotion out and look at the logic.

I don’t have huge issue with some tags being in a draw to drive visitors to the expo and to give that small extra chance for some of us.
The conservation tags that are up for auction at banquets and the expo......I think there are too many of them. A few is fine.
The UDWR likes the money that rolls in with those tags, so I’m not guessing they’ll be going away.
I guess the answer is, BUY MORE GameStop stock! :ROFLMAO: Make more money if you want in on that game I guess. I still can’t even take the express lane on the freeway cause they want $.75 to go 3 miles.

Who is they, The SFW wildlife board? Fox guarding the hen house is what that is.

See Bold^^^ this is definitely habitual and regular.

Elkantlers, notice the word "and" in the definition. That means the first portion of the definition can't be excluded. If they had used "or" instead of "and" then the first portion of the definition can be excluded.

Here in Utah the problem is not just the expo tags you've got all these other conservation groups like the elk foundation, mule deer Foundation, turkey Federation, ducks unlimited and so on that also get conservation tags so there is alot of tags that are being auctioned off every year that don't make it to the public hunting draw, I don't know of any other state that hands out that many tags..

I know this is a "UT thang", but just to shed some light on the topic about the misallocation of public land permits up for sale to the highest bidder, one of NM's liberal US senators submitted a letter to the state's legislative body to end unit wide private land tags as they are an unfair advantage for the super rich. Since the liberal senator has spoken it, it shall be done..

So, all UT needs to do is elect liberal US congressmen and it should solve your tag misallocation problems.

Actually, these tags are given to the conservation organizations to auction. They do not purchase them from the state.
No, Vanilla. Actually no tag is given to the conservation organizations.

The conservation organizations are nothing more than a contracted service to manage the tag distribution.

There's no need to lie to the people Vanilla.

Give
/give/

verb

1. Freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to.
2. Cause or allow (someone or something) to have (something, especially something abstract);
provide or supply with.

Yep, sounds like the state gives these tags to redistribute at their discretion...

Hey Roadrunner, Do any of the conservation orgs have a tag in their possession that they transfer to anyone else? No they do not. When you are the winning bid or the lucky winner in the DWR does the conservation org walk up and hand you a tag? No they do not. Because they don't have one. Do you have to write a check to the state DWR? Yes you do. Because the state possesses the tag. Details matter. No need to lie.

They aren't given anything but a contract and they don't distribute anything at their discretion. They are told exactly how it is distributed.

That's the truth of it.

Those are federal programs and SS principally isn't socialism its a Ponzi scheme.
So its only socialism if its a State mandate? Again, try reality...and good to see you never lose your penchant to argue anything. Even when you're wrong.

Texas farmers are NOT required to participate. Texas Residents are not required to take SS or Medicare. Yet, their strong independence and opposition to social programs sure doesn't seem to slow them down.

So its only socialism if its a State mandate?
Those are your words.

If you have a problem withe Texas farming and their relationship with state or federal governments go start a thread. Not sure why you want to hi-jack this one unless you are bitter your state has bought into socialized wildlife management.

You need to educate yourself on how the tag distribution takes place before you tell people they are wrong. We know you won't, but I won't let you lie to the people on this forum without your regular inaccuracies and blatant lies being called out. Chase that tail, dog. Chase it good!

My state has the market cornered on proper wildlife management. Plus, they're in the black and have the revenue to operate nearly a year from surplus $$$. They outlawed game farms a long time ago too.

I can hunt 6 pronghorn a year, 3 elk, 6 or more deer a year, 2 lions, black bear, wolf. I've drawn both sheep and moose in the last 8 years.

I'm too busy hunting to be bitter...

Well I can only kill 1 pronghorn a year.

But I can kill as many elk as I want, and as many deer as I want and as many lions as I want.

We didn't outlaw game farms here. We realized people can do what they please and be free people and it really doesn't effect how much fun I get out of my hunt.

Why would you bid try, you can kill all of the elk deer and lions you want where you live ?

Here You Go Joe!

Here You Go Joe!

Thanks Bessy, Man I’m like a kid in a candy store! Those bear hunts are looking good. What time of year and how hard of a hunt is it?

Thanks Joe

Well I am paid up and in the expo draw. Good luck to all of yall. Hope everyone gets the tag of their dreams. Thank you Utah.

This online thing appears to be working well to generate revenue for conservation projects and likely reduces over head. It would seem to me that the UDWR could run this on their own from here on out? With the equities markets doing so well high net worth people have money to burn.

Ill be damned. 17 years in and FINALLY dudes are seeing this for what it is? I guess rubber chicken dinners and Lee Greenwood really did mesmerize dudes.

Im sure the $3.75 per app will be returned to the state since there isn't any overhead this year?

But hey. Lets drastically cut tag numbers. Make it so kids cant hunt deer. Further decrease our numbers. Then handout all this welfare, cap it with CWMU and talk about "management".

And we wonder why the baiting and cam bill has to bypass the WB and RAC?

This is asinine. The entire idea is asinine.

But bet your azz, dudes will *****, then play the lotto.

Hey Hossy!

How Much Legal Gambling is there in this State?

You Only Gotta Know One Thing:

You're Gonna PEAY to PLAY!

Hey Elk I pay out tens of thousands of dollars a year to the government and there is a %100 chance of getting absolutely nothing from them for it. This way I can give a government a few hundred dollars and there is a tiny chance I can get a big game tag.?

I’m wondering what the average amount a person spends on drawings at the expo.
Tri just said a few hundred.
Is the average 100, 300, 500 or more?

I am not familiar with the rules.
Can you buy multiple chances at each hunt or only one chance at multiple hunts?

You must be as dumb as you sound to "spend tens of thousands of dollars" and not get anything from the government.

Sell one more Antelope Island Deer tag (pull one more from the public draw) at $200,000+ and you would not the need the money from the Wasatch moose tag, Book Cliffs BC elk tag, Little Creek elk tag, SJ archery elk tag, Boulder elk rifle tag, Mt. Gt., Henry Bison, La Sal elk, Pahvant elk rifle, Puans archery deer, and Southwest Desert elk. Take one tag from the public draw and return 11 high quality tags to the public draw. The current bid on these 11 tags equals $200,000 - it is a wash. Do this with an additional sheep tag or two and you could return another 15 or so. Auction off only tags that bring those insanely high amounts and return the 'cheap' ones that only bring $15,000 to $30,000. You could generate the same revenue from a much smaller number of tags. Your odds of ever drawing one of these high dollar tags is so low it is virtually impossible anyway. Have the UDWR run it virtually, auction off a few more of the really high dollar tags and return as many of the lower revenue generating tags to the public pool as possible - non-resident pool of course :) Overhead would be lowered significantly and you still have the revenue for projects.

Dont forget. First and foremost this is 100% about $fw.

Of course the DWR could do an online auction. The tags sell themselves, not the Peay boot licking, or Bair auction skills.

Of course they could auction a couple high dollar tags and do just as good.

Go read last years press release from $fw. They tout the # of folks who participate so they can claim they are supported by all those people. They use that to gain the contract .

So, they would never draw the same # of folks with only a few tags.

The expo is about $fw maintaining control and power. More tags=more people=the claim that they represent the majority of hunters.

There is zero need for $fw to be involved with the tags. Especially this year. $3.75 for each app, the siphon out of those $5 apps.
Its tge most disgusting scheme going.

Yep. I heard SFW conspired with the chi-coms to introduce kung flu so they would make a better margin this year with the expo tags.?

Butt hurt because RMEF didn't get the bid.

Shouldn't be a bid period. OUR tags should benefit US(or our wildlife) 100%. An org is free to throw an expo any day, but the tags shouldn't be part of it. Surrounding states auction their small handful perfectly well without a middleman.

But RMEF bid didnt have them pocketing anything of the apps.

I did some digging, and these numbers are from 2018. I don’t want to search and do the math for 2020 right now, but I can only assume this is baseline. Nobody is giving tags back, only asking for more. They do not include the non-resident only tags, so the OIL numbers are slightly low, and non-antlered game (cow elk, turkeys, cougar, bear) are also not included, but this still illustrates the point. This is how many tags in each species were removed from the public draw and awarded to conservation groups to auction and keep the profits.

Deer: 110
Pronghorn: 59
Elk: 181
Moose: 4
Desert Bighorn: 7
Rocky Mtn Bighorn: 7
Bison: 7
Mountain Goat: 9

Put these back in the public draw, and this impacts point creep. One year of 181 elk tags does make a difference on its own. But remember, that number is basically like compound interest, because it adds that amount of elk tags every year, and removes the same amount of people from the draw for 5 years at the same time. And that number of people out of the draw increases every year. This ends up being a SIGNIFICANT difference over time. It is less pronounced in the OIL species than LE species, but it is still a difference.

All of these tags should be returned to the state draw. If the state wants to take a tag or two from each species and auction it off to generate revenue, I’m fine with that. But the state should do it and keep the revenue itself. I find it humorous how critical our section here is generally of welfare programs, while this conservation tag program has these organizations latching to the government welfare teet more than any other group in all of America.

This is the one single change I’d like to see in Utah wildlife management policies. We’ve got end the welfare tag system.

Look at all you fellas getting bitter. You really think ap fees would make that money???? ???

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. ?
