Here's Fatrooster's antelope pics.
Congratulations Drew. This is a nice buck. What area did you get him in? Tell us the story.

Nice Antelope there. Congrats. Is that your first ever? I know it's really tough to draw a Nevada tag. What area?

Looks like the ground is kind wet right there. Were you hunting a water hole?

I was hunting area 68 which is part of area 6. I'd been scouting several times and was only averaging seeing one antelope buck a day. During the hunt I was seeing fewer bucks. Everything I saw was about the size of my buck. The area was getting hit hard with hunters and 4 wheelers everywhere. So my buddy suggested that we go high and get into the high desert mountains. I thought that was weird because antelope live down low but decided that with all of the pressure it might be a good idea. Sure enough, we found this guy up high with several smaller bucks hidind out from the crowds. I took him on top of Mary's Mountain overlooking Newmont Gold Mine where I work. The pics were taken down low at the truck. Thanks Wes for posting my pics. fatrooster.

Very interesting! 2002 I got an antelope about that size in area 141. Close to Buckhorn Mine in the Cortez Mountains. Pretty desolate country. I had the only NR tag for that area. I accidentally wandered into a gold mine over near Crescent Valley. The guy very politely escorted me off the property. They had some BIG dump trucks! He told me they were mining about 1 million ounces a year.

Steve, I was using a Ruger 7mm magnum and the buck was only at 100 to 150 yards. I realize that a 7mm is pretty big for an antelope but it was all that I had at the time. I had given my other rifles to step children. I just recently bought me a Savage 25.06 with the accutrigger. Haven't even shot it yet but I'd like to try it out on some coyotes. Back to the buck antelope. I shot him in the neck and broke his spine. He had expired before I could travel up to him. A neck shot turned out to be very humane in this instance. I may have told you wrong on the area. I can't find my area map. But my tag was good for both unit 67 and 68. I've never been in unit 141 but always love to see new country. Later, fatrooster.

Rooster,

Thats a great buck! I think a 7mm is a great for antelope. That just means you will have a little less of that antelope meat to choke down. Just kidding.

Nice goat, congrats!
Hit'em with the 7mm......they can never be too dead! :)
