Favorite Bourbon?

We have had a pretty good last year and a better than good start to the new year, so one of our vendors dropped by a couple bottles of single barrel Blanton's by the office to thank us for the business.
I cannot justify spending the kind of dough that "high end" bourbon is selling for these days so this is a real treat for me. My day to day is usually Buffalo Trace, or Clyde Mays' from time to time.
What is you guys' hooch of choice when its time for a sip of bourbon?

Have had a lot of the best ones purchased by others- not worth it to me. Pappy was so smooth it was like water... but who wants that for 2k+ a bottle?

Four Roses, Elijah Craig, Makers, Basil Hayden etc... are all decent.

Love me some wild turkey 101. Bought a bottle a couple weekends ago and that first evening was surprised how easy it was to drink. Nearly 1/3 of the bottle was gone by morning

Also brought home a bottle of Juke Joint and it was delicious for the price point!

Its CO made, 10th Mountain. Its smooth. Horse Soldier isn't a bad choice. You can also go to a Trader Joes that sells whiskey and get their $17 bottle, its Buffalo Trace basically.

I too have enjoyed a bit of the Tin Cup recently. While in Colorado on my boys cow hunt the Mrs. came back from the store with some. The fella working there said it was made nearby and recommended she try it.
Another good yet affordable whisky I stumbled upon is one called "Blackened". It has brought home a bunch of awards the past few years and is promoted pretty heavy here in the bay area as it is in some part owned/endorsed by the band Metallica.

First few years of Stranahan's was great then they refine their process and now it's blah crapola. Can't stand it. They went for profits vs quality product.

Ya, I live in the north bay about 40 miles north of SF. I usually find the Blackened at Bevmo, but they haven't had any the last couple of trips to town.
Funny thing that that they may not have mentioned in your documentary, Hetfield is actually a very prolific hunter.
My best buddies family had a big ranch near San Rafael back in the day that they sold to him in the late 90's. It was heartbreaking when the family sold it, but money talks. I had a ton of great times dirt bike riding, hunting Blackies and taking a few special ladies up to the top of the ridge for a little "sight seeing" at that place. You could see the golden gate, the Pacific and the Sierras on a clear day from the tallest ridge. He put up a couple of wooden Indians at the entrance gate to the ranch that have his face carved into them. I will get a picture next time I go by if I remember. They are pretty badass.
Met him a few times here and there, real down to earth guy.
Like many he fled this nuthouse years ago

Blanton's is always great. I have a Blanton's black edition Takara that I haven't opened yet.
Jefferson's Ocean 'aged at sea' is another great one.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is outstanding.
Old Elk is pretty damn good.
All above neat of course.

Bib & Tucker, Bulleit, or Bushmills (Irish) with a couple rocks for a daily.

When I was on the Scotch train my favorite was Dalwhinnie 15 year.

Had the Old Elk in a MMer' s camp a couple years ago. Pretty good.
More Metallica: James moved to Vail a few years ago and I heard he bought a nice chunk of property. Don't know if it's true... now that he is getting divorced don't know if he will stay around. He has some kids here that a friend teaches.
Another friend saw him at a show and he declined to take a pic with him. I totally understand. Imagine every person you meet wants to crawl up your ass?!! I defended James' right to a bit of privacy/respect... hell I know and used to like this guy but he can be quite grating !! I think James is an awesome songwriter and musician but I would not bother him if he did not want to be bothered.

The problem I have or had when drinking bourbon is
I would sit with friends take a pull off the bottle then a sip of Busch beer and between me and one other that bottles gone
and I’m in good shape. That’s something I don’t need to do
