This one has a lot of red flags. I think sportsmen should take a hard look at this new proposal.

Losing out on 10,000 acres of huntable Forest lands occupied by a reservoir so ranchers get subsidized water and 26% of the irrigators are in Colorado using Wyoming water from Wyoming state lands.

So the state wants to exchange some state land for NF lands so they can build a dam. The state lands they are giving up are small parcels within the NF. How does that impact hunters? Looking at the map but not being local, all of the land seems to be huntable.

For now it is all accessible but not sure in the future. They are planning on transferring the lands to Carbon County. Some of the lands in Carbon County are not accessible and have big No Trespassing signs around them. The State is willing to do this in order to get out of a long term lease burden. Lots of red flags on this.

”Once built, the dam, reservoir and property could be transferred again, this time to the Water Development Office, to Carbon County, or some other entity, “where they [the Water Development Office and others] weren’t under the burden of the lease payment,”
