GM Going electric

I worked for a “self proclaimed” sustainability company that produces products for consumer consumption. No matter what they or any other company may say....”zero emissions, earth friendly, sustainable, green, etc,” it ain’t true. A company came to Utah to produce a food/beverage product. If they produce 150,000 gallons of said product a day, they use 300,000 gallons of water to make it happen...IN THE DESERT (Not to mention the 30,000 amp service that fed the building for POWER) where water supplies are shrinking because populations are increasing and so are the businesses that are “sustainable” and environmentally friendly!

Why wouldn’t an environmentally friendly company conduct an environmental study and find a state that is not impacted by all of the water usage? Why do you think the Great Salt Lake keeps shrinking? We don’t let the water reach the lake any more before we suck it up in our businesses and lawns! Why is this?! Because a manufacturing business doesn’t come to Utah to be SUSTAINABLE....They come here to be PROFITABLE....It is cheaper to operate in Utah than other places and it serves as a centralized distribution hub for the West. Again....big manufacturing businesses are not here for you and I. They are here for themselves and their wallets.

And back on point, electric cars emit a carbon footprint during the manufacturing and transportation process, not to mention everyone involved to design and produce these vehicles leave some sort of carbon footprint.

“Zero emissions” just means “environmentally friendly to the right audience....

“Zero emissions” is no more than a marketing term to make you “feel good” about your purchase.

“Zero emissions” is smoke and mirrors to me.

I’m not really inspired that they’ll be too enthusiastic about repairing their combustion powered legacy vehicles.

The reality is that CO2 emissions in the US has been dropping for years while China and India's have been going up. The United States could drop off the face of the earth and CO2 emissions world wide will continue to climb.

The really good news is our current administration has rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement, because all the ones in the past have really cut those CO2 emissions. This graph shows the rise in CO2 along with the timeline of past Climate Agreements. It looks like we rejoined just in the nick of time.

WTF is going on with these big companies. It appears they think their market going forward is the liberals. So they need to talk the liberal talk and promote the liberal lies.

Amazon says they will be carbon neutral by 2040. Wow, that will require some great technical achievements. A 747 cargo plane that will operate on batteries, wow. Thousands of container ships coming from China, what are they going to do? Put sails on them. So obviously this can't technically happen so it's just a lie. Talk the talk.

General Motors 100% electric cars in 15 years? The issue with current electric cars is they have a 250 mile range and take 8 hours to charge. So these are just commuter cars, if you want to go very far on vacation you will need a second gas powered car.

There is a lot of research going on with new battery technology but it isn't here yet. They are talking about a 500 mile range and a 30 minute charge. Will it be here in 15 years?. Who knows?

General Motors is coming out with 20 new electric vehicles in 5 years. But if these hit the car lots and don't sell, which it's doubtful they will have good sales. Then their timeline is going to greatly extended. Talk the talk.

I don't expect to see the end of gas powered vehicles in my lifetime but I do see it in my children's lifetime.

My grandfather was born in 1881, before automobiles, before airplanes, even as a young adult. It was horse and buggy, bicycles, foot travel and trains . He passed away in 1977 and had lived from the horse and buggy era to see a man on the moon. So don't be surprised about how much technology will change in the next 50 years.

Add to that all the wealthy with their 1 acre lawns. It is going to get too dry to spit there.

If the internet had existed when Galileo said the earth was round this is the same response he would have received.
Probably a better analogy would have been when cars and combustion engines were started...how many of the "horse and buggy" crowd, crowed about how we'll "never replace our horse and buggy with those new fangled automobiles"....

How did that work out?

This will be the same. And anyone that doesn't believe in the near future that battery technology will change in the next 15 years to allow more vehicle range, and quicker charging times, well, I got news...

We put a man on the moon in the 1960's and 60 years later, you don't think we can improve battery technology? OK.

I also never thought I'd see battery powered lawn mowers, battery powered ice augers, etc. etc. etc.

The car companies that aren't willing to adapt to electric have no future....and the smart ones realize it. Get on board, or go the way of the dinosaur.

Well.....we better get started on generation capacity...

We can barely keep the lights on now.....too bad the power of the atom scared the left so bad....it would answer their prayers

I'm actually involved it trying to get a hydro project installed on one of our dams. the power company that would have to buy the power is less than enthused because they say solar is the future and they don't want to be involved in funding anymore hydro. the fact is we can and will produce the power needed to charge the cars.

My opinion is, and this is as unpopular with the left as the truth is to the right, we need more electric vehicles and we should produce the power with modern nuclear power plants. but that's just logical thinking from a moderate and it has no place in America today.

As far as all the butt hurt whiners crying about electric cars, why not ? I don't want one of the lame azz things but if other people do WTF is the problem ? you can't stop progress grandpa.

I agree with the modern nuclear power plants. Gen 3 plants are very safe but Gen IV plants should be coming online in 10 years or so if they are approved. Safer in every means, even from air attack than Gen 1 and Gen II. The waste will be a small amount also. If we could produce something better that would be great as there is always risk.

The problem with EV’s is the lack of charging infrastructure. Sure, big cities and main thoroughfares have charging facilities, but it’s not feasible to tour the blue highways as it stands now.

But Biden just fixed that. In order for a nationwide goobermint fleet to function, us taxpayers will now get to foot the bill so the Tesla crowd can swing by your Indian casino and get her topped off on the quick charger. Hell, lets upgrade the grid while we’re at it.

Ain’t America great. :)

Dont forget. Gm is going carbon neutral. Meaning an average. So they will produce 12 ev cars to offset the Duramax, vette, suburban. Then tack the price of the ev cars not selling onto those guzzlers.

I agree with this 100% but you can't have the first....without the second...

"we need more electric vehicles and we should produce the power with modern nuclear power plants."

Who is stopping the construction of these power plants?????......lol

Once in a blue moon... they speak the truth.

Just hilarious. The stupidity of it all.

NOT against progress, but I really hate effing liars (this is cleaner than that). On it's face, EV's produce no CO2 compared to my combustion engine vehicle when driving, but how did that handy-dandy EV get produced? What materials (think about the huge battery bank and precious metals used to produce them) and to produce the vehicle itself?

And the video establishes the irony about clean vehicles--they run on electricity that was is being produced by?????

I truly hate that all this crap and the saps that buy in to all neatly wrapped solutions. Gotta love these morons, especially those in California who always "lead the way."

Politicians with no clue, politicians that have a different agenda and the time it takes to get all permits Homer !

I think it all boils down to rich people paying the officials to make them richer .

Politicians have always spoke out of both sides of their mouth-their agenda is to line their own pockets and all those on their agenda.

#1 Reason I have never liked politicians.

Yet ANOTHER, and they seem to come every week now, example of the elite vs us bull.

Can YOU afford a Tesla? Can YOU short squeeze a stock? Can you open your buisness? Can you be on social media? Can you own a gun?

2021, I HOPE is the year that WE figure out the D vs R, or black vs white BULLCHIT, goes away and WE start to awaken to what's really up.

In California's southern San Joaquin Valley, most intersections with Interstate 5 have Tesla charging stations at gas station/mini marts......with no attendants. Does anyone know who's money paid to construct them and how the user gets billed??

I sat in on a PowerPoint so I know all about them. :D

It’s like a gas pump, you get charged by the kilojigger. The quick chargers get it done faster, but the peak demand charge goes way up. The overnight chargers are cheaper per kwh.

Commercial applications require quite a service drop if they have a couple of quick chargers.

lmao.....thanks for nothing

Credit card dude.....just like the gas pump.

if you are asking who paid to put the plug out there, depends. I was listening to someone peddling a grant application. But we both know who really paid.

Here's the problem with government mandates, the politicians and bureaucrats don't understand or care if 5he technology exists to meet their decrees. I live in Kalifornia and own a food distribution business. Several years ago the California Air Resources Board mandated that we had 5 years to have fleets replaced to meet their particulate reductions. Not only would this be costly, much of the technology needed hadn't been invented yet. So we replaced a fleet of 20 Kenworth tractors and retrofitted 32 refer trailers....it cost millions. Caterpillar stopped putting engines in trucks so we switched to another engine. From clogged filters to the computer shutting down the engines the trucks are always in the shop. We are now switching to Freightliner tractors, more money spent. I have a bad taste in my mouth when any politician makes another rule that hurts the citizens,.

You KALI Boys need to do it like we do here!

Tear that F'N Trash Off & let them Engines Breathe & Run!

I Know!

I Know!

You can't do it!

The Point is this:

Your F'N KALI Approved SMOGGERS Ain't as Reliable!

Your KALI Smoggers are Less Powerful!

And This Goes for any of their BS SMOGGER Approved Vehicles:

You Ever Notice a RE-BURN/RE-GEN on some of these Rigs?

Instead of Polluting a little all the Time!

They Collect it & Shoot a whole Bunch in to the Atmosphere real Quick!

And the Rigs are in the Shop more than they ever were before!

The OBAMA Pipes never Helped anybody or anything!

what's the point??

We have a Tesla charging station at the Bayshore Mall. The Mall paid to put it in and they don't charge. Free "fill up" because they want you to shop while it's getting charged. Very seldom do I ever see a car there because it's out in the back 40, and a Tesla driver ain't about to walk very far.

The Mall probably gets a kick back from Tesla for having it.

30,000 Amp service ???

Its always amused me listening to the enlightened crowd in Kali. Clean energy, no coal for them. As they plug the latte maker into an outlet fed from Utah coal running the IPP power lines.

It would be funny to just agree with them for a week or 2, and not feed the plant.

I spend a shitload on gas every year. ID welcome a 1ton that could pull 20k, on a single digit winter day.

But that aint happening anytime soon.

Hey Hossy!

I Hear they're gonna Build a LEZBARU Electric Pick-Up!

Sounds like the Payload will be a Maximum of 400 lbs!

How Cool You gonna be in one of them?

I'd like to see all the farmers park their fossil fueled machinery for a year. You know....to save the planet.

They wouldn’t be able to buy a new powerstroke or duramax then. Unless of course they were stimulated somehow. Or they subdivided.

But I get your point.

CARB requrements reached pretty much everyone whether they knew it or not. Just like California blends drive refinery runs. And fake shortages.

Nobody is saying there will be no fossil fueled engines. the plan is to move away from them as fast as technology and funding allows. this makes perfect sense as long as the goals are realistic and achievable. so rather than whine about it work towards it with a constructive approach because you can't stop it that's a fact.

Who is stopping nuclear power ? everyone. was nuclear power a Trump priority ? no. will it be for Biden ? no. would most Americans approve of it even if they did ? no. if you haven't noticed this nation is full of dipchits and I don't expect that to change.

Hey Togpotee!

If This Nation/World was really Worried or Really Wanted to do something Good that Would Help Clean Things Up!

The Passenger Cars that Don't Need 800 GAWD-DAMNED Horsepower Could of been Running on Natural Gas for the Last 50 F'N Years!

So Don't Start Your BS with Me!

Would Most Americans approve of Nuclear Power?

Just Depends if there wasn't any other Choice!

I'll GUARAN-GAWD-DAMN-TEE You,If You Didn't Have Power To Charge that 2035 KING RANCH You'd Be the First one Begging for Power No Matter how it was Produced!

Yes makes much more sense to buy oil from far off lands that hate the U.S. as much as the left does. Kerry czar was at the podium the other day and said that we could go to zero emissions and it wouldn't make a difference in the climate. The dude that crafted the "Green New Deal" admitted it had nothing to do with climate. Of course many know this - but sure lets give the left our tax dollars & our liberty so they can save us

That is true Wetmule. They seem absolutely bent on spending more money than any other group in history. Electric car fleet, reparations, bringing in immigrants offering all they need. New Green Deal also and that is just a start. Culture cancel and renaming everything will carry a high cost after you add up how much there is tat doesn't fit the acceptable.

I don't care if you want to go to all electric cars and trucks. A quiet electric truck would make a great road hunting rig. Just don't do it in the name of climate change, because that's the biggest scam in history. If you believe the so called climate scientists, the world ended 5 years ago.

Maybe it did end 5 years ago...?????????

Homer would Rather Join the Worlds Toughest Man Competition & Move that Load with His Body & a Rope Before Buying a Ford!

:D:D:D!

General Motors and EVgo are partnering to build 2,700 charging stations in the next five years. But if you think about it that isn't very many nationwide.

Yeah, that's not many at all. Ford has 13,500 locations with 35,000 charging ports.

It would be hard for long-distance Western trips, even with all the charging stations. They've got a tool to enter your current location and destination and it shows all the stations on the way, but I don't want to wait at a gas station or pharmacy for my truck to charge.

There are 15 within five miles of my house, and some are free, but it still seems inconvenient.

I can see the benefit of a plug-in hybrid truck though.

Guaranteed when there's No other Choice but an Electric Pick-up!

Hillbillies Around Here Will Be in Big Competition to see Who can Out-do Who with BAD-ASS Generators in the mounted in the Bed Saying:

I Can Go XXXXX Miles without Plugging in to one of them Pusssssy Outlets!

The New Ford F-150 Produces it's Own Voltage!

When They Get Real Popular though!

I Wanna See what kind of Mood the CROWN Induced Oregonian is in when He has to Wait 3-4 Hours to Re-Charge His F-350?

Bobcat I'll just buy 2 so I don't have to wait.

The point here really is this is going to happen, electric is the future and you can accept it or you can get run over by it I don't care.

Now will it happen overnight ? no. do I want in on it ? no. I like things the way they are but that applies to lots of things that are unsustainable. welcome to reality .

As far as the oil thing goes, prices are low enough domestic production has it's dawber in the dirt right now. are you saying we need to burn more fuel and screw up the environment more so the price of oil comes up enough to provide jobs ? as opposed to making jobs in the clean energy sector to replace them ? that's stupid. I'm sure the buffalo hunters had the same sob story and look how that ended.

So Togpotee?

You Go on a Trip You'll Stage them F-350's?

HINT:

You'll Need More than 2 Trucks!

I Didn't Say We needed to Burn more Fuel,Pay TF Attention!

I Said If Anybody was Really Truly Wanting to Clean the Atmosphere up the Last 70+ Years that Passenger Cars Could'of been Running on Natural Gas with way Less Pollution!

Another HINT:

This F'N World Ain't Gonna Last Long Enough to Worry about it!

You still have to make electricity and a whole lot more than we're making now. We'll have to have batteries the size of Colorado for when the sun doesn't shine, like at night and in the winter time or when it's cloudy. Or 5 million wind mills and hope the wind blows. Those are great for the environment and they only have a life span of 20-25 years. Then what?

If we're serious about this we better go nuclear, no joke.

Actually, I like your natural gas idea better but you know how deadly that CO2 is. Going from 300ppm to 400ppm is kind of like adding 2 more people to a sold out NFL game.

lol....physics should be a high school requirement...education by propaganda is NOT education
Lol! In one of the strongest man competitions, these guys hooked up to a C130 plane and pulled it. The plane weighed 90,000 lbs. these guys weigh between 350 and 440 lbs. that comes out to on average 200-250 times their body weight.

The F150 weighs a little over 5,300 lbs on average (probably more as an electric vehicle) pulling a little over a million lbs. This comes out to roughly 200-250 times it’s body weight. So, not as impressive when you look at a human accomplishing the same work as a machine lb for lb.

When you read something that sounds this crazy it probably is. This sounds like corporate suicide. So what's their game? What's the scam? What's the con?

One possibility is that they will break into two divisions. GM-EV and GM-Belcher. They will spin off GM-EV, it will be Tesla Junior. It won't sell very many cars, it won't be profitable but the stock shares will soar out the roof. It will be just like Tesla.

GM-Belcher will still be making gas vehicles just like they do now. If they don't they will drop from being the fourth largest car maker in the world to 30th or 40th.

getting it moving is easier than stopping it.......

I did try to find any EV public charging stations in my county. I did find one and it's a Tesla super charger.

Of course I'm a little out in the sticks, but everywhere in my state goes from a little out in the sticks to a lot out in the sticks. But there are two major interstates within five miles of my home.

Everyone out in the sticks will be relocated to the city in due time. It‘s much easier for the government to provide ”services” that way.

Fractional ownership in an ev and a tofurkey in every insta pot.

Put all those laid off coal miners to work mining cobalt, lead-acid, nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), lithium-ion (Li-ion), lithium-ion polymer (LiPo)

You know....to save the planet.

If you want to talk physics then you need to apply resistance... which is exponential.

If this was as easy as some of the experts here say, we'd all be driving tin cans getting 100mpg towing the space shuttle around. There's a reason truck manufacturers are doing what they're doing. It's not as simple as a theoretical world without friction, gravity, and opposing forces.

It is going to cost plenty to make and install all tge charging stations. Then it will be taxed heavy like everything else. It will cost so much the average joe won't afford trips.

Gonna have to install solar charging stations in the hills for all these flat brimmer road hunters!

or just drag the generator around till you need a recharge and a beer break!

Generators will be included in the going green movement. Henceforth, even generators will go electric and you'll need to add solar panels to your generator to power your flat-brimmed Subaru wagon (big trucks a no-no moving forward). There, fixed!
