Hi all
The wife and i just got back from three days of turkey hunting.
If you have'nt hunted them before you are missing out on
one of the best hunts ever.I called in several turks before
i got mine. Our set up is a double bull blind with predator
camo with two hens & one tom for deeks. I called in two hens
on opener eve and right behind them came the tom.
He came over 150 yards down a hill and right to us struting
& drumming his head changing color, blue to red to white.
What a rush, it took 20 min for him to come in to 25 yards.
I wanted to shoot mine with my bow, but i had a little
turkey fever and missed. I was heart broken that i missed
my first turkey. I switched to my trusty 12 gauge and got my
second chance. This time i didn't miss, a perfect 20 yard
head shot. They came in from behind us and a little up hill
not a very easy bow shot for my wife so i let him have it.
Also we had our two little girls with us, kaylle is 4 and
alexis almost 1 they were very good for mom & dad in the
blind. Git them young train them right.
I will post posts my photos when i get them back.
p.s utah has a crap load of turkeys .
see ya

Congrats on a great hunt!

I went on my first turkey hunt this spring here in AZ. I didn't get one, but had several close encounters. I agree that it was a GREAT time hunting these birds!

I'll be out again next spring!

Four of us just returned from a fantastic hunt in Nebraska. We saw a whole lot more birds than last year, and 3 of us scored in 2 days. It was great to just sit and listen to the hens; I think I learned more in those 2 days than the past 5 years-they really are fun to watch interacting with each other.

As for me, I was holding out for a big ole' tom, but since it's only my second turkey, I took a jake that decided my binoculars at 5 yards were more fascinating than eating! My other buds both took tremendous toms with 9 1/2" beards, one of them had brightly bronzed highlights.

Turkey hunting is as exciting as elk in the rut, in my opinion!!

Anyone know what states have fall seasons?

Pred

Turkey fall seasons..Texas, Wyoming, California, there are others but can't think of of top of skull.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

Kilbuc, would this be on the eastern side of Wyoming?

Mtmiller, what part of Montana...is there public access or is it mostly private?

I want a Merriam's to get my next specie for a slam!

You want a merriams, hunt unit 10A in idaho. Fall hunt is ridiculously easy. Land owners are more than willing to let you hunt. Flocks of hundreds are common. Some big big toms too. Tons of public land too. Lots and lots of birds.
