Not true. It is roughly the same legislation that comes up every session, gets cosponsored by a couple dozen democrats who need to show that they are “tough on guns” to keep their jobs. Dies in committee. It is a house bill. It did not get “snuck in on” the senate bill on Coronavirus relief, which was recently signed into law. This gun bill is a long way from even having majority democrat support in the house. It’s pretty dumb for them to put out extreme ideas like this with no chance of becoming law. It does far more to rile up the NRA and the right than it does to appease the democrat constituents who want that type of law.
