Very slick action but bolt tended to gum up with fouling. Too much recoil. Excellent trigger. Nice weight and balance. Beautifully finished metal and handsome stock. H-S Precision has a lot more influence in the gun industry than the average gun buyer might suspect. For example, if you own a synthetic-stocked rifle by Remington, Weatherby or Winchester, there's a good chance the stock is an H-S product. H-S is one of the few gunmakers (including even the big names) that builds everything?stocks, actions and barrels?under one roof. And its reputation for making finely accurate rifles is such that it recently won a contract to build tactical rifles for the FBI. Nevertheless, the test rifle provided by H-S, its Pro-Series 2000 SA Lightweight, had a couple of things going against it. One was the .270 WSM chambering, which makes it a hard-kicking, hard-to-hang-on-to combo in a 6-pound rifle. Furthermore, extraction proved difficult and accuracy was not as good as we expected, considering H-S Precision?s reputation for top accuracy. Both of the problems, we concede, might have been ammo-related. Overall, this is a slick-working, nice-handling rifle.
