Sometimes it's better to run TO the fire instead of away from the fire.

How a 'Hillbilly Brigade' saved an Oregon town from raging wildfires

They are credited with saving the mountain hamlet of Molalla, an hour’s drive south of Portland, after its 9,000 residents were forced to evacuate.

I bet there will be some environmental reviews and concerns to address after the smoke clears. Sheesh!

Tough resourceful people and not one of them took offense at the Trump 2020 sign on the table set up up to feed them. A great town to live in.

I was a forest fire fighter for 2 summers when I was going to college. For some reason our crew almost always pulled the night shift. It was dangerous because you could never see the smoke coming so you didn't know which way to go to get out of it. And we were never called heroes back then. At the end of the second summer, California offered me a truck driver position which would have been year around.
