A hundred and twelve years ago, in 1907...our great grandparents were first able to buy the rifle pictured. The semi-auto Winchester Model 1907.
This is a gun they could buy from a Sears catalogue and have delivered via US Post. It was/ is a semi-automatic, high powered centerfire rifle, with detachable, high capacity magazine.
About 400,000 semi-automatic rifles were produced before WW2. Civilians had hundreds of thousands of these for 40 years, while US soldiers were still being issued old fashioned bolt action rifles.
The 1907 fired just as fast as an AR15 or AK47 and the bullet (.351 Winchester) was actually larger than those fired by the more modern looking weapons..
The ONLY functional difference between the 1907 and a controversial and much feared AR15 is the modern black plastic stock.

The semi auto, so-called "assault rifle" is 110 years old. It isnt new in any way.
The semi auto rifle was not a weapon of war. The government MADE IT a weapon of war 40 years after civilians had them.
The semi-auto can be safely owned by civilians. The proof is that literally 3 generations of adults owned and used them responsibly and no one ever even noticed.
Want to fix the horror of mass shootings? Fix the things that have changed for the worse in the last 50 years. Family Values, Prayer from Schools, Ten Commandments from court houses, Spanking Kids, Morals, What is socially acceptable, Confusion on Genders, Left Wing Liberalism, Socialism, ect.

Cause the rifle technology in question was here long before this insanity. GOD SAVE THE USA.

I saw a wonderful sight yesterday in my neighborhood.
It was an elderly man with his presumed wife, both about 80 years old driving an old 1965ish Ford truck with both a pump shotgun and a lever action in his gun racks in the back window.
It took me back in time with a smile on my face, followed by a sad feeling.

Can’t point to guns because we had guns back in my day too. I even had access to them at all times and I still wouldn’t dream of wasting someone that made me mad. The thing now is we are so divided. AR's are very available and cheap. Heck, you can buy one for $500 new. Cheaper then most good bolt action rifles.

They are the rifles these kids use in their video games 24-7.

Kids need to get outside and not spend so much time on the video games.

I agree that young people and mental health people should be looked at closely. AR's are not a necessity to target shooting or rabbit hunting.

Kids need more family time, parenting, values instilled and teaching children about firearms so they are not seeking around or handling them without supervision. They should be educated enough to know to leave them alone if they come across one at a friend house or while out and about.

Guns Don't kill people, people do. Restrictions will not keep those that really want to get a weapon from doing so. Heck even in our most restrictive places (Prison and jail) people find ways to hurt others. Crude prison shanks, but yes they do work.

Wish we could all go back 40+ years ago when there was firearms in every pickup truck and behind the kitchen door. However, with video games, social media, lack of kids just getting outside and playing and communicating with each other, things are not getting better.

What bothers me is that you never see a cause-and-effect relationship on actual gun crimes for any particular proposed law/regulation. In other words- "if the new law had been in place, this recent disaster would not have happened". There are (per mainstream media) over 20,000,000 AR-15s in US circulation. Watcha gonna do- take them all away? It's ludicrous- and would likely cause a civil war- or at a minimum so much civil unrest that the cure would be worse than the disease.

Sadly, these school shootings (which are horrendous) seem to be the catalyst for the emotional debate that leads to emotional proposals. Even more sadly, far more kids are murdered with handguns- which account for 60% of gun murders- vs just 20% via assault weapons. So now watcha gonna do- take 400,000,000 weapons away? Maybe it’s just me but next to my 22-250 my AR-15 was my go to predators rifle. That was until this liberal feel good state made me take off the pistol grip and collapsing stock. And made me install an uncomfortable set up. With to many gun laws to count and the fact that it’s illegal to kill someone (unless in self defense) I feel more restrictions are not the answer.

The only fact I know is that if there were no AR-15’s in the world. And I mean destroy EVERT LAST ONE, then not one more person in the world would be killed with an AR-15.

Currently we are spiraling away from the past 250 years set of known and accepted standards or values…… and like those civilizations that have collapsed before, for a period of time our standards/values will be like a thousand ping pong balls careening around in the back of a semi trailer van being towed up a logging road. The chaos in the van will continue until and new set of values or standards is established, usually by being conquered or willingly turned over to a dictator, to end the chaos, or……. reverting back to the pervious values or standard that have “guided/influence” the population for the pervious decades/centuries.

America/and the Western World is at that tipping point. We are clearly in chaos. We can continue until we are conquered or vote in a dictator, or turn back and influence/entice the population back to the thinking, acting, and reacting with the “standards/values” that “held together” this civilization for the last 250 years.

There’s a better chance to return to our pervious standards/values if we keep our weapons than there is if we give them up, (temporally…..ha, ha, ha) until a new civilization is established.

Or…….. go ahead and keep denying it’s the lack of an “accepted set” of standards and values by the 90% and you’ll keep watching the killing of our softest targets.

After we toss this diatribe in the trash we can talk about whether or not we’re born and locked into evil minds or whether we can become evil. And if so, how? If not……….. then what?

"In Uvalde, the gunman committed a felony under Texas law before he even pulled the trigger. It's a felony to possess a firearm on school premises. But that did not stop him."

TO UVALDE FAMILIES - "With regard to a special (legislative) session, let me just say this: all options are on the table.

"Do we expect laws to come out of this devastating crime? The answer is absolutely yes. And there will be laws in multiple different subject areas.
