That main peg must screw into the plate of a tripod?

Yes. You attach the bino adapter to your tripod using whatever plate your tripod accepts. Your tripod plate will have a screw that comes through the plate and screws into the bottom of the bino adapter. Most people leave the plate on the adapter and buy another plate of using a spotting scope also so your don’t have to mess with switching it always.
