LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-10 AT 02:09PM (MST)[p]I know most of you hunt DIY, but I'm hoping a few of you might have some feedback or knowledge of J&J Outfitters out of Henefer. Any input on them would be appreciated.

Ben

Please let me know what you dig up. I booked a hunt with them this fall. I only heard good things but a bit pricey.

if you dont mind hunting with jerks... what i mean is people who take hunting oppurtines away from people and kids to benefit himself.. that to me is down right being selfish... waiting around until someone dies then go to the property owners start flashing money around get what you want, stealing from camps when the camp owners are off the mountain.sound famillar jed???????????????????

hunted the same area for 40+ years this clown manages the area next to the area i was hunting, tresspassed all the time. got caught all the time, land owner is old all he and his wife saw after the old manager died was money waved in there face, so they took it, jed wants the mountain to himself, has everybody off the mountain by october 1. got caught going through peoples camp, steeling firewood. and lord know what else, he is a greedy man, you can pm if you would like and i will go into more detail if you would like, what are you planning to hunt with him? elk, deer??

I know one of his guides really well, you will never meet a better selfless person. I know Jed lost some of his property, but has managed other properties to produce some really nice animals. Seems like the kill some nice stuff every year. Now another guy that drew an elk tag on one of his CWMU's, he claims he got hosed, but without the CWMU program he wouldn't have ever been able to hunt the property anyway. I have use Weathered Horn Outfitters(Daniel use to work for Jed, and lives in Henefer, a couple of times, and have nothing but the best to say about them.

The best around, Anyone that has bad thing to say about him has never really seen the hard work he puts into the herds in Utah. You can not go wrong with him he will take great care of you.

+1 with what 4x6 says. Do your home work. Can be Shady as a cottonwood. He's a sales man he'd sell a blind man a porno or at least take his money. The people who have nothing but good to say about him, either don't truly know him or see him only at church in the parking lot. PM i'd love to hear what ranch he's trying to sell you.

That's funny, He trys to sell you a hunt. Crazy? That's his job? Well at any rate he has been around for 19 years and every year gets the job done.
Do you home work and you will find a lot of great things about him and his hunts. If he has been around for 19 he must be doing something right?

I haven't actually talked to Jed, only a third party outfitter. After getting the price sheet I found out I could hunt the same class of bulls cheaper in New Mexico. I wanted to try somewhere different next year though so I'm going on a back country archery elk/muley combo in Montana. The bulls and bucks will probably be smaller than either NM or Utah, but I've always wanted to do a pack in hunt so the adventure is more important than the antler size.

Thanks for the feedback I got from everyone.

I hunted a CWMU DIY deer a few years back.

I took a tour of the ranch with the owner prior to the season. I was instructed to call Jed to set up my hunt days. He was more than generous with the days.

The owner gave me permission to scout up until the week before the hunt opened. When Jed caught wind of this he did not like it at all. I can see where he was coming from not wanting the deer disturbed, but my hell there were sheep and cattle hands all over the place anyways. I was not pursuing them, in fact very few deer knew I was there unless I bumped them on the roads.

This particular ranch had decent deer numbers for the acerage. I think Jed's hands were tied when it came to quality. Simple fact was too many bucks were coming out of the herd each year. There were quite a few older deer with bad genetics. Some of the bucks I did see were young 4X's and its a shame but I know these were the bucks Jed was forced to sell. As a non paying hunter Jed was straight up with me.

On the last 20 minutes of my hunt I ended up taking a heavy 18" 2 point. I only hope I did my part to help the herd on that particular ranch. I passed on several bucks (most appeared to be young 2-3 yr old bucks) I did see 1 good buck and could not close the deal. I have noticed the tag #'s came down last year. Maybe this was Jed's doing.

I would recommend anyone that is considering JandJ to do their GD homework. I have talked to one guy that actually had a good hunt, although he said that was due to the guide, and not the quality. I have talked to two other guys that have had the same opion that Jed whould screw his own grandmother, advertising 340 bulls when the particular ranch was averaging 265 and hadn't haverested over 320 in a long time.

littlecaseof200itus - You wrote in another thread on Jan 30th the following....
Jed and Jenni Wayment based out of Henefer Utah, run a first class operation. They dont do the horse thing but, nonetheless kill some nice stuff, check out their website, www.jandjoutfitters.com/

Yet, your post above is completely opposite. Have you ever actually hunted with these guys? Please remember how powerful harsh comments can be to someone. If you have no experience with them, you should tone it down.

To All - Please remember that your comments about an outfitter (or anyone) can do some serious damage. Of course you are welcome to share opinion and your knowledge of an outfitter, but I ask that you treat others as you would want to be treated.
I just think that the way a couple of you have talked about him is quite cruel. Whether he leased the property you once hunted or because he's a strong salesman, you really to need to ask youself, "Is this something I would want someone to post about me and my work ethic to all my potential clients, my boss"?
If someone has done you wrong, then fine, be critical. But have some class and appreciate the fact that they are human too and have families to support, mouths to feed, etc.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Brian,

On certain ranches they do kill some damn nice stuff (missouri flat, schoffiled, etc.), I know a guy who had an expericence on a lesser ranch that was not what it was advertised and he left very dissapointed. Long story short do your homework when booking any hunt.

Sorry Brian I wasn't trying to start a thread to defame anyone just looking for some personal experience with this outfitter.

I agree that some of the comments could easily hurt his business and his reputation as a guide. But on the other hand, if he is treating people like crap and just milking people for thier money and not giving them a quality hunt, he deserves it.
Business is all about the "Customer", and if the customer is not happy with the results and the service, the guide should be called out. Yes, it will hurt his business, but it will also save people from getting screwed over. I say if you had a good experience, praise the guide and recommend him. But if he screwed you over and treated you like crap, then he deserves to lose business and his future clients deserve to be warned. If he doesn't know how to treat people, he shouldn't be in a "Customer Service" position in the first place.
