Hello fellow hunters, I’m new to the Jarbidge area and I drew a tag for 2023 and I, super excited. But… I know nothing about the area. I just wanted to see if anyone can point me in the right direction or give me some advice on where to start. I’ve heard that the roads up there aren’t that great but we do have a 27 foot travel trailer that we plan on taking. Any help or advice would greatly appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

Did you draw archery, muzzleloader, early rifle, late rifle or late archery? I have had the late tag myself for deer and I’ve been on three elk hunts in Jarbridge. The deer in these units do migrate so the late hunts are different than the early. They are in bachelor groups in the early archery season. You’re not gonna be driving through Jarbridge. It is a wilderness area I suggest putting your man pants on to go in there! Saw more elk, then deer in the wilderness but we were looking for school buses not deer! Cottonwood ranch has a few RV sites with full hook ups. I don’t know why people enter for units they know NOTHING about, but you can get some starting points from NDOW‘s website.

What season? Archery, early rifle, late rifle? Many of these deer migrate long distances. You should try to do sone research and learn everything you can about this deer herd and it’s migration, seriously. I think the Cottonwood Guest Ranch has RV hookups and puts you in a descent starting point, but it is a huge remote area. An OHV might be useful in some places, but you will probably need to cover a lot of ground in your 4x4 before you worry about OHV unless you know exactly when and where you can find the deer. I drove hundreds of miles without any problems and hunted through a pretty good snow storm in mid October. I gained a great appreciation for mule deer after hunting this area and learning about this particular deer herd.

Ha ha, looks like you posted this while I was still writing, but we had similar advice. Nice. I like hunting and exploring new areas, but it may not be the most effective way to find big bucks. I drove through Jarbidge in the Summer, scouting, but decided to hunt a different area in the Fall. Jarbidge is a an interesting place.

Take the wife along, camp at Cactus Pete's Casino, come back every day to a warm shower, nice accommodations and a happy wife. Winner winner - chicken dinner!! :)

It can be good but you need the best glass..
Plus it's the only area anywhere that you can get a road kill lion at 3am.. If your gonna be in a travel trailer you are far from a fair buck...
I perfer to go in through Hummingbird sprung trailhead. You can get in through the North (through Idaho). No place to tow a trailer through. But we done it..

Jester, that's the route I took into Jarbidge on my elk hunt a couple years ago, through Idaho...no big campers going that route. To the op, I saw a few bucks ( 150ish) but not many . I was blessed with the bull in my avatar up there , tough hunt , harvested on day 14 .

There are stud bulls in that area..
I actually (cough, cough!) Ran over a decent Kitty there too.
It's been a long time since I been back.
I seen a few Outfitters camped in there with a few book bulls back then..
Sucks it's take a decade to get enough points to get back..

And how it changes in that decade. Or even just a couple years…. Almost always a good time tho. The years they were seemingly trying to eradicate cows were a bit rough. 500 cow hunters and 100 bull hunters had the wilderness feeling pretty crowded..

Mr. Allenchris, we have missed you these past 3 weeks. Kinda frustrating not seeing gps coordinates included in any of these responses. Maybe you need to be more specific and ask exactly where the big bulls are and make sure to put it in the title of your new thread. Let me direct you to my post on how to get info from our members here:
