My wife and I were fortunate enough to drag two cow elk tags for the Kamas/Oakley area. I had a mule deer hunt during the early portion of the season and finally had a chance to head out there last week. I’ve done my reading and know that this is a tough area and can see why. Can’t see more than 5 yards most of the time and a lot of the access roads are seasonal. My question is: is it worthwhile to make the 8.5 hour drive from NV and burn a week of vacay to try and find some elk up on public? Or did I miss the chance to get them before they went down to private? During my three days out there last week I only saw two adult cows with two yearlings. But they were 500 yards away with no obvious way to close the distance due to topo and timber. I personally am not taking that far of a poke and if you would then more power to ya. Beautiful country though! Thanks and good luck on your hunts!
