Here May 11th the Lander regional Office will be hosting a meeting that is in person and via zoom. here is al ink to the zoom meeting. Sadly I have a graduation tonight and can only join virtual. Here is the zoom link... Trapping regs are minimal changes with only a few issues. I suspect the liberals in the area to be in attendance...

Zoom in here...

Well meeting was pretty uneventful. The results of the plan show that the number of wolves in the trophy area has decreased some. Breeding pairs are down as well but still above the required min. The overall result was 4 fewer licenses(kills) in the trophy areas.
The informations was pretty bland and stale. Lots of talk about how wolves are affecting the Dubois Big Horns. Still not known mortality to the big horn sheep directly but bio suggested that increased disease deaths and winter kill might be attributed indirectly to the wolves as the sheep are no longer able to access the better winter range and they are grouping and staying closer to each other. Resulting in header winters and increased transmission of disease.

this last year the had at least 2 packs in the trophy area completely killed by other packs. The other older packs no longer appeared to be denning and eventually ran out of fight.
Antis were trying to push and prod for the names or locations of depredation activities. WY keep that information sealed as they do not want the ranchers or land owners attacked. All they will do is provide the pack information when a wolf is killed for depredation.

mantis were pushing hard for information on wolves killed outside of the trophy area and means of death, trapping? Snares? Hunting and the state said we can not give that information with out a request made to the state.

Thanks for the post. Sad about the Dubois sheep herd status. The herd there was once the transplant cradle for much of the Western states initial bighorn sheep transplants and numbered over 1000 sheep at one time. My grandfather took 3 sheep in one decade over there back when it was all random licensing and not nearly as much interest in them. Funny how the antis don‘t want any winter feedlot programs as it concentrates the elk. Yet the wolves will do the very same thing and probably even worse. Hunters have done far more for conservation of species than the antis who want to ban all hunting. If they have it their way eventually even the predators will starve with no game remaining. Sad.
