lets here about it

The archery hunt for UT is only 3 weeks away, and I'm excited as ever. So leave your complaints, and whimpering at the door and lets talk about what really makes Monster Mulies a great sight:HUNTING!!!!(i.e. deer you have scouted, general area you are hunting, your archery set up,ect). I'll go first.

I'm excited for two reasons. 1) I get to hunt for the first time with my new hoyt x-tec, and 2) I have a couple of real dandy bucks scouted out here in the southern region. We've had a pretty wet year and horn growth looks as good as ever.

Good Luck and good hunting

new terrain and animals

LAST EDITED ON Jul-30-04 AT 03:37PM (MST)[p]I haven't hunted elk before, and I will be doing so for the first time in some beautiful country. to make things even better, it will be my first backpack hunting experience. I have a hard time concentrating at work...in fact, what am I doing here! This hunt will be with my bow and that makes me exceptionally anxious since I feel more confident with it than a rifle (though I imagine I would probably be more succesful with the gun).

I am also looking forward to my first bear hunting (if I tag out on my elk), a doe mulei hunt and possibly a cow elk. However, I am most excited about the archery elk and possible bear hunts. Not pictures, no stories, but nothing to complain about either. I haven't been putting in for points, but I haven't hunted for two years either. I am hopeful I won't be missing anymore seasons!

Oh yeah, I get to start hunting about two weeks after I get married and 2 days after returning from Montego Bay, Jamaica. The elevation is going to hurt! Yeehaw!

RE: new terrain and animals

I bought an new bow this spring. I have never killed a deer with a bow, haven't tried real hard. This year I am commited to the task. I bought an Outback, spot hog sight, and muzzy zero effect. It shoots great and I killed a lot of squirrels with it. I set up a range at the house and shoot everyday. All tuned and ready to go. I hunted A-zone already and did not shoot, didn't expect to. I go to Nevada the 14th. I am pumped! I have a friend who lives right where I will hunt and he is seeing lots of good bucks. I don't know how picky I'll be. I will probably melt-down if I get a good one close. No matter what happens, I look forward to the rush.

RE: new terrain and animals

I am hunting in an area that held some nice bucks last year...and with the wet year I think the antler growth should be great!
I also tuned my bow and am preparing to shoot the crap out of it to get it dialed into the kill zone. Maybe the big boy that was spotted last year will run into one of my arrows...or maybe the buck I missed last year will fall to a well placed arrow! I cant wait till the end of the month!
Also here in about 2 weeks archery antelope opens in Idaho and I have a few good bucks spotted...and hopefully the one I seen last year one time will be back...doubt it...but it would be awesome to see that buck again!
To pass the time I will be shed hunting though and scouting during that time as well....so I am excited to say the least about this upcoming season....should be a good and long one.....knowing that if I dont tag out during the archery season then I have rifle season to find a big one...and if that fails there is another late archery hunt that holds some good bucks...and elk should be fun since I will have more time to hunt them as well!

RE: lets here about it

I'm taking my 15 year old for his second deer opener smack dab in the middle of an elk herd on one of the LE elk units. LOL!

My goal is to get him in the middle of the animals. So what if you can't shoot them, at least he might get the fever from having some big ole bulls all around. Maybe there will be a few of those big bucks hanging around too.

You spend your whole life with small kids waiting for when they can hunt with you and then when they get there, the uppitty punks decide that skateboarding and girls are much more important :)

This year I'm resorting to some more secret tactics. All those 12 year old bulls running around should be good for something.

Cheers,
Pete

RE: lets here about it

I didn't really get to hunt much last year at all as my wife and I had our first child on 8/23, I know, I know... So needless to say I'm excited to hit the hills this year. We have a few good bucks spotted in our area. I'm starting to get real anxious with only a few weeks left. >>>------>Sixgunn<------<<<

RE: lets here about it

I have also found some nice bucks here in the Utah South region. Hopefully we're not chasing the same deer. I got a Mathews Legacy last year 2 days after I killed a small Muley, and I am excited to take it out this year. I did kill a Whitetail with it in December of last year, but I want a big Muley. Good luck to all during the season. I can't wait!

RE: lets here about it

I'm getting pretty excited! I haven't had the time to scout this year, due to too many other things going on and my hunting spot being several hours away, but I have been pouring over the topos and can't wait just to get away for a while. This is a fairly new area for us, we hunted it the first time last fall and got a 3X4 after passing several other smaller bucks. I can't believe it is August already!
