On the new VX-III 4.5-14x40 and 4.5-14x50 without adjustible objectives...do you not need the AO with such a high power? How can you call the same magnification LR (long range) on one and not on the other? Does 30MM and 1" tubes make that much of a difference...the Vari-X III had the AO for this magnification? Your input is appreciated.

LAST EDITED ON May-26-04 AT 06:20PM (MST)[p]hunt1, I personally dont care for a AO on a hunting scope, but love them for varmint or BR style shooting. Most of my hunting only requires a 10x, parallax free to 100 yards scope.
The parallax is set at the factory on the non AO's.

1" tubes vs. 30mm tubes...A 30mm tube gives you more elevation adjustment. Unless you plan on shooting out to or past 500 yards, it probably wont matter. No detectable differences as far as how much light it lets in, even though it is a bigger tube.

As far as Loopies term of "long range". It is a 30mm tube, thus offering more elevation.

Hope it helps.....
