I'm going into 2024 knowing that Wyoming deer is probably going to be a bust and im a opportunist on elk (they taste really good) so basically the 1st bull I have the chance to shoot if I'm lucky enough to get a chance will probably be what I get. I have the possibility of drawing a decent Colorado deer tag this year so . Dad drew a archery Arizona elk tag so most of September that's where I'll be, and hopefully my cousin will be in the running for a Wyo moose tag. As of right now that's the plan anyways. I've been pretty selfish the last few years and put alot into my hunts so hopefully this year I can return the favor and help on some of these others.
Here's something a little different for you. I wish I could tell you what these are called but no one has any idea we just call them sage brush mushrooms. They are awesome stuffed with cream cheese and elk sausage. Don't get to excited though they don't make you see 200" deer running around all over. Also went and looked for some morels but I think it's still a little early.
Well tag 1 for me is filled with the biggest antelope I've ever shot. Today was the antelope muzzleloader opener. I decided to go over and spend the day just checking out the unit so I knew where to go later in the season. We looked over alot of small bucks which is what I figured I'd probably end up shooting at the end since the unit isn't really anything special. We decided to check out one more road and then probably head home to glass for deer. Dad glassed this buck up and I looked at him for about 5 seconds and said yep I'm going to try and shoot that one haha. He went over a ridge so we hurried and snuck over. As I peaked over I could just barely see him so I crawled to where I could get a shot and I heard the whack before I could see passed the smoke. The best part was there was ground growth as I got closer. The mass above the prong is crazy. Haven't scored him yet but he was definitely big enough. Best part is today marks 23 years since my dad's hunting accident. Been a ton of memories that came close to never happening.
Hopefully dad doesn't mind and even if he does oh well I'm posting it anyways but he got a nice buck in UT. Unfortunately I wasn't there to see it go down but was fun texting back and forth getting the play by play
