Yes, we need to address the license fees for all species. Javelina fee needs to be decreased and every other species needs to be adjusted based on today's demands. That is set by legislature. How about we have the legislature add the mt. lion license to every deer license? Lion harvest limits stay the same, yet every deer hunter has a lion license. We all know the recipe for increasing deer population numbers: better habitat (burning, thinning, etc) and kill more predators. Not rocket science here, we just get caught up in adjusting buck license numbers up and down, which does nothing for a deer population. Until we force the Forest Service and BLM and State Land Office manage these lands for healthy habitats that support elk, deer, and other wildlife nothing is going to happen. An example would be to force the Habitat Stamp Program to make sure sure every project is 100% wildlife focused. The Dept. just went through a regulation cycle that adjusted license numbers, seasons dates, etc. yet hardly anybody commented. But, we'll get hunters on here complaining later on about the lack of good deer hunting in the great state of NM. What do you want? Get involved, but get informed about how to make the hunting better. Killing males does nothing for a population up or down. We have to affect the habitat and kill more predators to affect a deer population.
