Meat Locker/Storage In Elko/Wells Area

Come October, our party will be trying to fill our four doe tags in Area 7. We will be out there for a week and are trying to figure out the best strategy for meat storage during this time period. Any suggestions for meat lockers, cold storage, processors, etc. in the Elko/Wells area? If not, some Yetis and few trips into town for ice is not out of the question. Thank you in advance for any helpful insight!

Really not any cold storage in the Elko area unless you know someone with a private one, which is crazy. There was a guy in Wells with one a few years back, but can’t remember his name. There are a few processors in the Elko area if you need me to get you some names. Deboning the meat and placing in a cooler isn’t a horrible idea depending where you are hunting and the temps. Nights in October can get pretty low. If you were around trees and temps were low enough, you could hang in the shade and keep cool, but October days can still be hot. Just depends. I’d probably go with deboning and putting in cooler. A doe deboned is not going to take a lot of space.

It’s been a while, but a Casino in Elko had a refrig trailer in their parking-lot...I used it on my Archery Mule deer hunt one year...

Awesome, I appreciate your guy's help. Our group had four cows and a buck last year in CO and the ol' tree hang did just the trick for 8 days. Although it was early November at 9,000ft so those happened to be helpful factors. We will most likely go with using coolers and/or hanging in a stand of trees and hoping for cooler temps!

Thanks again.

Start freezing milk jugs filled about 85% of the way with water, that way you will have some good ice that will keep your meat dry in those coolers

Hang at night then in morning wrap it in a canvas tarp and place it on the ground in the shade for the day.
