Montana Bear

I posted this in the Montana forum. But apparently nobody goes there.

So, I haven't hunted Montana for a number of years now. But, I'm toying with the idea of doing a Spring Black Bear hunt. Wondering what the populations are like in the Ennis, Quake Lake, Madison River area?

I'll call the local Biologist as well. Just wanted to see if any MM'rs have recently hunted this part of Montana.

I've hunted the Idaho side in that area quite a bit. It is a tough hunt. I saw a nice one the day after the hunt ended. Got 3 more on the trail camera. Sign all over the place but extremely hard to find. Here is one I shot in 2011 in that area

I hunt the Idaho side quite a bit. Hard hunt, I've seen 3 black bears and 3 grizzlies in the 4 years I have hunted it. Lots of sign but hard to find them. Here is one I shot in 2011.

From Missoula... west and north... is way better Bear hunting. Ticks are bad but Bear numbers and spotting is way easier. Dave
