Picked up my new elk rifle today chambered in 8x68mmS. 200 grain Accubond going 3000-3100 FPS should be about perfect.

I'd never heard of that caliber before so I just did some research on it.
Just curious but why did you select that over the 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag or 300 Ultramag?

I already have a 300WM and 300 WSM and didn’t want another belted cartridge. Also because I have a 6.5x68mm so it kinda matches. Pictured is a ‘06, 300 WM and the 8x68. For the record, 8x68 throws a bigger chunk of lead than the 300 WM with 3 grains less of the same powder at the same speed.

Lovely rifle build, and great choice of a custom caliber. Sometimes, you just want to be different.

When you absolutely, positively want to convince a bull elk to die - bigger is always better!! :)

Very nice rifle. I would be happy to try it out for ‘ya in October if I draw my Wyoming elk tag! ???

Mackey
Might need to loan it to you. ? Went into the WY draw with 8 points and only a random chance of drawing.

Maybe this will be the year 17 points buys me an Oklahoma elk tag.

I tell you what, the 200 grain 8mm Accubond is good elk medicine. I hope to put mine to the test again this fall on a big bull. 21st year applying and I am excited to put my .325 WSM to work.

Good luck to you in the draws!

It always pains me a little to see people draw on their 1st or 2nd application, but that's the name of the game.

I took these photos the week prior to picking it up. I’ll get better pictures when I take it to the range. The stock is a Wildcat Composite from Canada.
