New Fire 21 elk 82 deer

Hopefully they will update the map. It has already made it to West Fork and headed up into the wilderness of Red and Green Mtns.

From our camp we watched it blow up! It was huge. There is 3 now in that area and the new one was large enough to block the view of the other 2. Infact we could even see the Spring Creek fire in Colorado down south! On Saturday we had 2 fires start west of us. We called both in and they were put out before Sunday, but they were both a long ways out and the wind was making them grow fast!

I don't plan on heading that way until October 7th. Hopefully, they are burn out or are mostly contained by then.

They aren't planning on containing any of them. They are letting them burn for resource value. Snow or rain is about all that will help.

From WY Game and Fish

Are you hunting in the south central portion of the Sierra Madre Range? This includes Baggs elk hunt area 21 and Baggs mule deer hunt area 82.

If you are, you will want to pay attention to the Snake Fire, burning two miles north of the Wyoming and Colorado state line and approximately five miles southeast of Battle Creek Campground

The fire blew up over the weekend due to extreme fire conditions and is not expected to be doused anytime soon.

The fire started as 30 acres Saturday evening in the Roaring Fork of the Little Snake River drainage and grew to approximately 200 acres by Sunday afternoon. As of Monday morning, the fire was at 2,350 acres.

Hunters and campers in the fire area have been evacuated. Pending an official closure order, hunters and other recreationists are not being allowed to enter the area for safety concerns.

If you are planning on hunting is these areas, specifically east of Forest Road 851.1, you will need to make other
plans. We recommend hunters monitor the progress of the fire via the Forest Service fire incident website area prior to an official closure. Information on the fire can be found at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5023/.

For other questions and information please contact Aaron Voos, Public Affairs Specialist with the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grasslands at 307-745-2323.

The cause of the Snake Fire is under investigation by USFS Law Enforcement. Anyone with potentially useful information from this past weekend in the area just east of Forest Road 851.1F should contact USFS Officer Hannah Nadeau, 307-343-2335.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-16-16 AT 09:27PM (MST)[p]Talked to firefighters today at store in encampment. They expect the fires to flare back up in the next couple of days with the warmer weather. They don't believe that any of the road bans will be lifted until late October. Or if there's an early snow obviously.

Thing is I was right across the Valley from the Broadway fire today and I couldn't even see any smoke. It was like it never existed. But apparently the rain/hail we got didn't put it out. There was a quarter inch of hail on the ground out there yesterday morning.

I hunt, therefore I am.
Harvest the land. Taking
of the fallen lamb.

Fires are still burning and some closures are still in place. Things should be ok by opener, but some of the areas will still be closed due to mop up operations. Check INCIWEB
